Emmerdale Triumphs At TV Choice Awards

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap.  There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.

Well, it looks as though congratulations are in order for Emmerdale who’ve finally managed to win, not just one, but three gongs at the TV Choice Awards earlier this week (they’re just like buses;you wait ages for one, and three turn up at the same time).

The prizes were won by Emmerdale actor Danny Miller, best know to us as Aaron Livesy, who walked away with the gong for Best Soap Actor. His ‘stable mate’ (well, we are discussing Emmerdale) Adam Thomas, who plays Adam Barton on the show, took best Soap Newcomer, while the plot which saw Aaron struggle with his sexuality won Best Soap Storyline.

That’s real good news for Emmerdale, cos over the years it appears as though the show’s been banished to  the soap wilderness when it comes to winning prizes at award ceremonies (if you recall, earlier this year Emmerdale were completely snubbed at  the National Soap Awards). Let’s just hope that their triumph at the TV Choice Awards signals the start of good things to come for the soap.

Other winners on the night were EastEnders who celebrated its 25th anniversary by winning Best Soap. ‘Enders actress Lacey Tuner, who announced earlier this year that she’ll be leaving the show, also picked up the prize for Best Soap Actress, for her performance as Stacey Branning. Meanwhile, Coronation Street were also honoured on the night with a special prize to mark what will be the shows’ 50th year on screen in December.

So, what do you think soapsters, were Emmerdale worthy winners at the TV Choice Awards? Let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment.

That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me tomorrow for the result of this weeks caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).

Emmerdale Star Says No To Pop Career

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.

Emmerdale actress, Suzanne Shaw, who first found fame in Hear ‘Say after winning Popstars, has recently admitted that she’s not interested in re-launching her pop career.

During a web chat on Emmerdale’s official website, when asked if she prefers acting or singing, the star replied: "It’s a hard one," she said. "I’m just very lucky to experience all kinds of things in the showbiz world.”  When asked whether she’d ever consider re-launching her pop career, Suzanne stated:"I am very passionate about my acting…although I love musical theatre the pop industry isn’t something I would want to return to…but never say never!"

Now, as we all know, Suzanne Shaw’s gone on to do pretty well for herself since the days of Popstars.  The 28-year-old actress  has appeared in musical theatre, she also won the 2008 series of ITV’s Dancing On Ice, before landing a role in Emmerdale earlier this year.  However, judging by the statements made by the ex pop star, it looks like a Hear ‘Say reunion isn’t likely to  happen any time soon.

Anyway soapsters, just in case you’re depressed  at the thought of never ever hearing another Hear ‘Say record again, here’s a reminder of why the soap star has probably decided to stick to acting. Hear’Say.

That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Friday for more news and gossip and don’t forget to enter this week’s capion competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).

EastEnders’ Minty proposes to Sam

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).

EastEnders w/e Friday 27 August

Before we talk about poor old Minty, a bit of news; when Robert Kazinsky, best known as EastEnders’ Sean Slater, announced he was leaving the show, it was with the hope of landing different roles and maybe, cracking America.

Now we hear that he is among celebrities rumoured to have signed up for Strictly Come Dancing. It just wouldn’t be Strictly without an ex-Enders star or two. But what a come down for Robert Kazinsky if this report turns out to be true…

They’re an unlikely couple, but that doesn’t stop Minty from popping the question to Sam. He tells her that he’s always loved her – you don’t need to be Einstein to see where this storyline is going.

Meanwhile, Ian and Jane are shocked when their kids are accused of cheating. At Christian’s flat, Syed feels really bad because he’s broke and has to ask Christian for money. Christian offers Syed a job and Syed reluctantly accepts.

Max is stunned when Dot presents him with a gift. Jane discovers that Ian has betrayed her. Heather gets a scare, but Minty’s there to help. Christian and Roxy’s drunken behaviour alarms Syed. Jane stands firm over a massive decision. Tamwar refuses to pretend that his brother doesn’t exist. Jane’s left reeling when Zsa Zsa lets the truth about Lucy’s abortion slip.

Later, Jane tells Denise that she plans to bide her time before showing Ian just how much he’s hurt her. Minty’s devastated when Sam brushes off the fact that she agreed to marry him.

Also on EastEnders this week:
Vanessa gives Abi a makeover
Max has a go at Darren
Bradley is remembered by his loved ones

Emmerdale w/e Friday 27 August

Emmerdale star Danny Miller has apparently been attacked by two drunken idiots because he plays a gay teenager. The incident happened in Manchester, but thankfully – Danny escaped unharmed. This is an absolute disgrace – it’s a lot for a 19-year-old to have to deal with. I hope Danny Miller continues to play young Aaron Livesy and doesn’t let this upset him too much. There are idiots everywhere unfortunately. Let’s hope they catch those thugs.

To the soap itself and things are heating up as Carl and Eve share a passionate kiss… is this the beginning of a sordid affair? Maisie confesses her fears to Nikhil. Elsewhere, Nicola’s upset because she missed Angelica’s first word. John’s search for Holly proves fruitless and tensions grow as Mark’s funeral approaches. Marlon hopes this is the real deal with Rhona – well, we all know his luck with women, don’t we?

Maisie knows Ryan’s innocent, but hides her belief that Nathan’s guilty. Carl tries to lure Eve back into his arms. Maisie’s stunned that Sam’s kept a secret about Mark. Marlon decides to ask Rhona a very important question. Chas unwittingly pushes Carl and Eve together.

Cain’s confession confirms Maisie’s worst fears. Eve and Carl continue their dangerous liaison. Nathan and Natasha fear Maisie’s onto them. David’s thrown as Leyla tries to hide where she’s been. Marlon’s disappointed by Rhona’s lack of enthusiasm about moving her stuff into Tall Trees.

Also on Emmerdale this week:
Nathan steals Maisie’s phone
Ryan loses control at the prison
Hannah catches Holly sneaking around

Coronation Street w/e Friday 27 August

Vicky Entwistle has told the News of the World that she’s leaving Coronation Street because fans think that she really is Janice Battersby. Her husband encouraged her to explore other acting opportunities. Well, it won’t be easy for her. Not many soap stars break free of the bubbles. However, I’ll be positive and say: good luck Vicky!

On’t cobbles this week, Becky feels nervous and under pressure as she faces the adoption panel with Steve… will she wreck her chances? Natasha desperately tries to make Nick believe her pregnancy lie. Oh dear – you just know that it will all end in Natasha’s tears.

Owen asks Eileen out on a date (can someone please give her a decent boyfriend for a change? It’s about time Eileen had a love life again). Becky and Steve receive the adoption panel’s decision.

Natasha’s odd behaviour arouses Fiz’s suspicions. Meanwhile, Sophie turns to Sunita after rowing with Sian. Becky tracks down her half sister with explosive results. Must admit, I’m not too keen on this storyline about Becky’s sister but it’s early days – so we’ll see.

Dev and Sunita are distraught as Aadi collapses with a serious mystery injury. Becky’s half sister causes havoc in the Rovers. Norris finds an intriguing letter from the 1960s addressed to Ken. A shocked Dev and Sunita find themselves under suspicion of causing Aadi’s injuries. Elsewhere, Hayley has more than one surprise at her hen night. Becky’s actions after Kylie and Michelle’s fight tears the Rovers apart.

Also on Coronation Street this week:
Kylie sets her sights on Ciaran
Claire makes a shocking discovery about Sophie and Sian
Sally plans a family meal

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 27 August
Former Brookside actress and Hollyoaks newcomer Alex Fletcher has admitted that she lost confidence after becoming a mother. However, the 34-year-old is thrilled to have landed the role of stepmum-of-two Diane O’Connor, where she is working with her former Brookie boss Paul Marquess. She’ll be a great addition to Hollyoaks – I’ve no doubt about it.

So to the show itself and the Costellos are reeling from Mitzeee’s earth-shattering revelation. Meanwhile, Michaela exits the SU excitedly, knowing that she’s got her scoop. A venting Cindy demands to know the truth about Tony and Gabby. Meanwhile, Cheryl and Brendan shop in Drive ‘n’ Buy, unaware that Veronica’s spying on them. To Theresa’s horror, a hungover Myra’s determined to sue Tony for her ‘accident’.

As Tony prepares for Il Gnosh’s food fair, a scheming Amber’s set to cause chaos. Veronica shows up demanding money from Brendan. Cheryl tells Brendan that Lynsey has some good news: she’s inherited £20,000. Brendan sets fire to his balaclava before filling Veronica in on the crime he’s committed. Elsewhere, Rhys receives festival tickets from Josh and excitedly plans to take his new internet friend.

Malachy warns Brendan that he’s going to stick to him like glue until he gets proof that Brendan robbed Chez Chez. Cindy’s in a fluster, anxiously awaiting her date with Alistair.

Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Veronica blackmails Brendan
A dramatic mix-up benefits Cindy
Brendan steals money from the club

Ex EastEnders Star Dropped From Record Label

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.

Hey guys, here’s a bit of Thursday afternoon soap gossip for you concerning ex-EastEnders star Preeya Kalidas, who played gay Syed Masood’s wife Amira. According to The Sun newspaper, the ex soap star turned singer, has been dropped by her record label after her debut single flopped.

The 29-year-old actress, who quit EastEnders earlier this year for a pop career, only managed to reach number 85 in the charts with her debut single Shimmy. Bosses had expected the single to do better after Preeya appeared on The National Lottery and Loose Women to promote it but the single failed to make an impression in the charts. Apparently the ex soap star had already recorded her album Constant Cravings, which will now not be released by Mercury.

An insider said: "Shimmy got very little radio or TV airplay, which is vital for a first single. Bosses thought the album wouldn’t do much better."

A spokesman for Preeya said: "There was a difference of opinion with Mercury about the direction she should go in. If Mercury is not the right label, there are others who are interested."

He added that she would feature on grime artist Skepta’s new single Cross My Heart next month – and planned to release her next song in November on a different label.

Well, let’s hope that Preeya does better second time around, but what did you think of Preeya’s debut single Shimmy…was it any good or did the ex ‘Enders star make a mistake in giving up her day job? Tell us what you think by leaving a comment.

EastEnders’ Sam returns pregnant

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).

EastEnders w/e Friday 20 August

This week, you may have noticed a storm about the crackers Phil-on-crack storyline. Hundreds of viewers have complained to Ofcom and the BBC (because they say it’s unsuitable for pre-watershed viewing) and the media are openly laughing at this plot twist.

To be honest, I don’t quite buy it either – it smacks too much of sensationalism; crack for crack’s sake. Oh well – let’s see how it plays out.

In the Square itself, the club’s back in business, but when Peggy hears Glenda’s secret, will this scupper Ronnie’s happiness?

Meanwhile, Whitney and Bianca take a miserable Carol out… well if they wait for her to be happy, they’d be stuck in the house forever. Glenda drops herself in it and reveals the truth to Ronnie, who’s sickened by what she hears.

Shirley discovers that Phil’s taking drugs and wants to help. Heather’s left out in the cold. Vanessa lands unexpectedly on Max’s doorstep. Peggy tries to paper over the cracks when she’s given some home truths. Jodie realises Darren hasn’t been completely honest with her. Abi cares for Darren after his ordeal, but does she have romance on her mind?

Bianca tries to boost her mum’s spirits after her failed date. Peggy’s shocked to the core when she finds out about Phil’s drug problem. Peggy goes to see Sam, but Sam rejects her and as she gets up to leave, Peggy realises that her daughter heavily pregnant…

Also on EastEnders this week:
Darren takes extreme measures for Jodie
Shirley’s loyalty to Heather is tested
Glenda tries to reason with Ronnie

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 20 August

I’m so used to hearing about soap stars wanting to make it in Hollywood that when I hear something different – it’s a surprise. Hollyoaks’ Hollie-Jay Bowes has revealed that she is launching a pop career. The 21-year-old – who plays Michaela McQueen – will leave soon. She’s in a band called Jeanie In The Radiator. Well – good luck to her!

Back to the soap itself and Tony gets the shock of his life when Gabby turns up in Il Gnosh. Carl tries to apologise to an unforgiving Jem for his treatment of Liam in the past. Ravi and Eva bicker and wind each other up about their love lives. Following another discussion with Tony, Gabby decides that she’s going to leave Phil. Steph anxiously arrives at the hospital for another round of chemotherapy.

Heidi turns up to view the SU bar as a possible venue for the charity fashion show. Anita comes home to learn the news that Jem’s moved out; Ravi won’t admit why. Heidi and Mitzeee come to blows with Cindy as they check out outfits for the fashion show at Cincerity. Steph enthusiastically gets to work on her film with Louis. Heidi and Mitzeee check in with Cindy and are relieved to find that her collection isn’t as good as theirs. After being rejected by Carl once again, Mitzeee puts in a phone call to the Chester Herald… what’s she up to?

Meanwhile, it’s the day of the charity catwalk showdown and Cindy’s brimming with confidence that her Vintage collection will win. Trying to be a ‘good’ mother, Eva presents Anita with a dress from Cincerity – what she doesn’t tell her is that she stole it! On the day of Heidi and Cindy’s catwalk showdown, Mitzeee gets her sweet revenge.

Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Brendan issues a threat to Ste
Tony and Gabby grow closer
Heidi makes Riley hit the runway in his boxers

Coronation Street w/e Friday 20 August

Our entire house erupted in laughter on Friday night. Corrie fans – you know why. Gail giving Deirdre a caking was the funniest thing I’ve seen on a soap in ages. I nearly laughed at Steve McFadden trying to act like a crack addict in EastEnders, but this was different. There’s hope for the Barlows yet – but how many feuds is Gail gonna have? She’s already got a foe in Eileen Grimshaw – surely she doesn’t need another one?

Back on’t cobbles, Nick and Peter’s rivalry leads to a punch up in the Rovers. I must admit, I prefer the David/Nick clashes. Their sibling rivalry is very believable and it soooo reminds me of Bobby and JR Ewing in Dallas. Anyway, Natasha struggles to keep it together following her break-up.

Will Bill retire and sell up to Owen? If so, what will that mean for Jason? Elsewhere, Natasha interrupts a moment between Nick and Leanne with a shocking announcement. Nick tries to persuade Leanne that she’s making a mistake with Peter. Natasha has to make a heartbreaking decision… but will she tell Nick?

Fiz has a huge announcement… but an ultimatum for John. Following a discussion with Leanne, Nick pledges his future to Natasha, but has he left it too late? Natasha’s trapped as her terrible lie spirals out of control. Sophie and Sian find a way to meet up, away from their disapproving parents – forget Romeo and Juliet; they’re Juliet and Juliet.

Peter and Leanne’s relationship shows the strain when they row at work. Fiz’s news means John’s determined to be rid of his double life. How will Audrey behave as she faces the Rovers for the first time since Lewis left? When Fiz and John make an important announcement in the Rovers, Nick decides to follow suit.
Also on Coronation Street this week:
Deirdre and Ken are in turmoil
Nick does a U-turn over his love life
Gail’s scathing of Nick’s news

Emmerdale w/e Friday 20 August

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the ratings, you’ll know that Emmerdale has been doing really well recently. Funnily enough, their drug storyline about Holly Barton hasn’t attracted anywhere near the level of criticism that EastEnders is currently facing. Maybe the EastEnders writers should study a coule of episodes of Emmerdale.

In the Dales, Andy’s possessiveness becomes too much for Adele. Leyla makes contact with Justin. Rhona battles her feelings, but Paddy worries he’s upset her. Andy vents his frustrations over Adele. Holly steals to fund her habit. Rhona arranges a break to take her mind off Paddy. Andy reaches breaking point. Moira gives Holly the benefit of the doubt.

Scarlett refuses to be Carl’s skivvy. Holly babysits for Laurel and Ashley, but is Gabby in a safe pair of hands? Meanwhile, Andy seeks out help with his anger. Scarlett decides enough is enough. Holly’s busted when Ashley finds her drugs. Scarlett decides to start her own business.

Nicola feels abandoned by Jimmy. Moira’s troubled to discover Holly’s missing. Viv’s jealous when she sees Lizzie with the twins and Carl enjoys having Eve around the office. Holly’s disowned by her father when she defiantly refuses to stop taking drugs. Meanwhile, when Moira discusses Holly’s problems with Nicola and Val, Nicola fails to keep the matter a secret. She dashes off to open her big mouth to anyone that will listen.

Also on Emmerdale this week:
Adele decides to be straight with Andy
Andy crashes his car after being dumped
Holly takes cocaine while babysitting
