Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition
so get scribbling and make us all laugh.
What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).
EastEnders w/e Friday 6 August
The BBC has said that Patsy Palmer is pregnant. She first appeared as Bianca Jackson in EastEnders back in 1993, returning in 2008 to reprise the role after nearly a decade away.
Her popular on-screen relationship with Sid Owen, who plays husband Ricky Butcher, was rekindled.
In real life, Patsy is married to Richard Merkell and has three children. So – how do they write Bianca out when it’s time for maternity leave? That’s a headache for the writers to solve.
So this week in the Square, Phil’s worst nightmare becomes a reality. Meanwhile, Patrick’s forced to come face to face with his failings. In an attempt to ensure potential buyers are put off buying The Vic, Pat and Peggy set to work trashing the place. Max has to choose between his daughter and his lover. Phil responds to his situation in the worst way possible.
Chelsea has a difficult confession to make and Peggy persuades her granddaughter Louise to head out so she can see Lisa. Peggy makes a decision that will haunt her forever. Carol’s old vices are making themselves known again.
Realising he may have lost Louise for good, Phil flies into a drunken rage at The Vic. Walford says goodbye to a much-loved duo. Denise and Patrick attend the funeral of the murdered prostitute.

Emmerdale w/e Friday 6 August
If you’re not a fan of Emmerdale, you’re missing out if the ratings are anything to go by. The rural soap’s doing very well at the moment thanks to some great storylines. In one of its biggest, James Sutton has said that he wants his character Ryan Lamb to get his "sweet revenge" on Nathan Wylde (played by Lundon Ogbourne) after the spoilt brat frames him for the murder of his dad Mark Wylde (Maxwell Caulfield). The former Hollyoaks actor said: "I hope Ryan will get out of prison at some point, then he can get his sweet revenge on his brother."
Sibling rivalry, eh? Still let’s move from one family to the other as the Dingles give Shadrach a good send off. This week, we’ll see Carl and Eve continue to grow close; how much longer can Carl fight temptation? Elsewhere, an excited Leyla opens up her shop. The murder enquiry steps up as the police discover new evidence near Mark’s grave.
Carl learns that Eve has money worries. Police attention shifts to an oblivious Ryan. Val and Marlon worry as Nicola tries to run the pub. An angry Natasha realises that Nathan’s framed Ryan. Downhearted Nicola realises she’s messed up at the pub. Jimmy learns that Carl lent money to Eve.
The police up the pressure on Ryan. Holly’s annoyed at Adam. Jimmy helps to smooth the waters between Nicola and Val. As the pressure mounts, Ryan’s charged with Mark’s murder. Holly takes a risk while babysitting for Viv. Leyla reveals tragic news about her mum. Nathan taunts Cain about Ryan’s predicament. David and Doug comfort Leyla after her mum dies.

Coronation Street w/e Friday 6 August
By this time, fans know that there’s a tram disaster coming. We also know that several Corrie regulars are rumoured to be casualties of the disaster; Jack Duckworth (played for over 30 years by Bill Tarmey) is one resident we’ll probably be saying a permanent goodbye to – a pity. If I had a wish, it would be that John Stape, Ciara
n McCarthy and Maria Connor perish – that’s just for starters.
Talking of John Stape, he fears that workmen will find Colin’s body as renovations continue at Underworld. Molly and Tyrone make plans to move away from the Street (go Molly, go!). Sean’s over the moon when Violet agrees to him visiting Dylan. Sophie’s trying to find a way to go away with Sian.
Cheryl’s surprised to find her abusive husband stalking her on the Street. Hayley can’t find the words to tell Scary Mary to butt out of her wedding plans. Fiz fears the worst when John refuses to give any answers… can their marriage survive his latest lies? Gail’s deeply concerned when Audrey and Lewis return from Greece and announce plans to move out there within a week.
Ches buys a van as he hopes to expand his business. Dev takes advantage of Claire’s good nature. Owen continues to make his mark on the Street, much to Bill’s chagrin. Cheryl sees a side to Lloyd that she doesn’t like.
Lewis comes up with a plan to charm Deirdre and scam the bookies. Relations are strained between Dev and child minder Claire. Fiz smashes Charlotte’s possessions as she continues to demand the truth.

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 6 August
Hollyoaks newcomer Alex Fletcher has "complete confidence" in her boss Paul Marquess. Alex, who’s due to appear as Diane O’Connor, is best known as Brookside’s Jacqui Dixon and she’s also popped up in Celebrity Masterchef. She said: "In my Brookside days, I did some of my best stuff with him so I have complete confidence in anything he does really. I’m looking forward to the year ahead and seeing where the character goes." Can’t wait to see her on a soap again.
So this week Jacqui’s fuming that Michaela’s being so rude to Des. The McQueens attend a family funeral. Myra ends up deciding to offer a home to her nephew Bart. Zak threatens to go to the police as the situation with Des continues to cause problems. Zak and Michaela play Jacqui the tape of Des’ racist rant.
The Costellos are surprised when daughter Jasmine turns up on their doorstep. Kris is anxious about his new job at the bank. Zak wants to set things right with Michaela, but she’s not giving him the chance. Des feels put out that Jacqui’s making him wait for an answer to his proposal. Myra learns that her cousin Vic’s wife just died. Steph’s at hospital awaiting chemotherapy when she spies a young lad filming her.
Zak’s cornered by Rose; she wants to brand him a traitor, but he’s got news for her. Ravi’s anxious to get his own back on Des, but Jacqui needs him to be patient. Brendan wants to help Cheryl buy The Loft. Kris wonders if Zak’s going to fight to keep Michaela.
