New Moon for EastEnders

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the world of soaps this week?
Fans already know that Shane Richie is due back in EastEnders as Alfie Moon later this year alongside Jessie Wallace as his wife Kat. But they’re not going to be the only Moons; they’ll be joined by younger cousin Michael, played by Steve John Shepherd.
If you recognise him, you might be a This Life fan as that’s one of his biggest TV hits.
A source said that cheeky Michael loves female attention, but there are key differences between the men. Competitive Michael has "a slightly more manipulative streak" than his cousin, which means he will happily stab anyone in the back.
He lives dangerously and "can be as ruthless as he is charming", the insider added.
Actor Steve said: "Michael Moon will be an exciting character to play – on the surface he a loveable, cheeky chappie but underneath he has hidden depths which will be exciting to explore."
EastEnders executive producer Bryan Kirkwood added: "I’ve been a fan of Steve John Shepherd’s work for years. He’s a fantastic signing for EastEnders, an exciting addition to the Moon family, and is set to cause a big splash in Albert Square from the moment he arrives."
Well I’ll try not to snort at that cos they said the same thing about Alfie’s other cousins; Jake and his brother Danny Moon. Remember them? In the grand scheme of things, they didn’t last long and are barely remembered. I might have fun counting the minutes before they’re mentioned by Alfie, Kat or Michael.
What do you guys think? Does he look like a good character to you? Let me know your thoughts by sharing a comment.
That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Friday where I’ll be announcing the winner of this week’s caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).
