Ex ‘Enders Star Wins Libel Case

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.

Mohammed George, better know to most of us as the legendary EastEnders soap character, Gus Smith (well, to us here on A Slice Of Soap he’s a legend…remember our old Friday afternoon feature Gus Watch?), has accepted libel damages over a tabloid report which claimed that he had to be removed from EastEnders 25th anniversary party.

The ex-EastEnders star took legal action against Express Newspapers after untrue allegations  were printed in the Daily Star Sunday. Apparently, the article which appeared in the paper earlier this year, suggested that Mo George was "turfed out" of the 25th anniversary bash by security guards after he arrived drunk and was aggressive towards BBC staff.

George’s counsel Lucy Moorman told the High Court earlier this week that the newspaper accepted that the claims were "entirely untrue". PA quotes Moorman as saying: "In particular, the defendant accepts that Mr George had not been drinking alcohol when he arrived at the party so he was not drunk, that he was not aggressive or threatening to anyone and that, although he left the party early, he did not have to be forcibly ejected."

Express Newspapers has apologised over the matter and agreed to pay Mohammed George’s legal costs along with undisclosed damages.

Hey, isn’t that great news for Mo George…the poor bloke has suffered terribly at the hands of the tabloids over the years, and certainly deserves a  break. Let’s hope that it won’t be too long before  we see him back on our screens doing what he does best, cos I’m really fed up of that E20 spin-off character “Fatboy”…he’s so bad that he makes Mo George’s  legendary character, Gus Smith, look like Charlton Heston…come back Gus, all is forgiven…we miss you…we miss you!

That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Friday where I’ll be announcing the winner of  this week’s caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).
