Lucas strangles Denise in EastEnders

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).
EastEnders w/e 9 July
Before we talk about the events in Albert Square with Denise and Lucas this week, pictures are starting to circulate of the Queen Vic on fire.
It’s been a major talking point for days now – the Vic’s going up in smoke and as a few EastEnders stars are due to be written out this year (for various reasons).
Barbara Windsor’s Peggy Mitchell is one of the favourites fancied to lose her life in the inferno. I think I’d prefer a less exciting departure for her, but there you go…
It’s a big week for Denise and Lucas and I must admit, I’m not a fan of the current storyline – it just seems a stretch too far. Anyway, Chelsea’s forced to come clean with Libby about finding Trina’s bracelet. Meanwhile, the police interrogate Denise about her rocky relationship with Owen.
Glenda and Peggy’s battle for Ronnie and Roxy’s attention continues. Ryan and Janine agree to take a break together. Lucas asks Denise to go with him to the police station where he plans to confess to Owen’s murder.
However, it’s not long before Denise realises that Lucas has other plans – something about murdering her, to be precise. Phil helps Ben prepare for his court appearance. Jack attempts to prove that he can walk properly.
Darren discovers that Heather’s accidentally washed his World Cup tickets. Ronnie and Jack have a serious talk about their relationship. Shirley tries to reassure Phil about Ben’s court case. Christian informs Zainab that he wants to sell his share of Masala Queen and Lucas tries to cover his tracks.
Also on EastEnders this week:
Minty asks Darren to move out of the flat
Ronnie visits Jack in hospital
Ian and Phil have a heart-to-heart
Emmerdale w/e 9 July
Good news for fans of James Sutton; Emmerdale series producer Gavin Blyth will be looking to boost his screen presence in the next few months. Those of you who were worried that he may be on his way out of the rural soap can relax now – it’s not the case. Besides, Gavin Blyth signed him so the last thing he’d do is fire him so soon. It’s a shame that Alice Coulthard (Maisie Wylde) is leaving Emmerdale – must admit, I’m not wild about her character – but the Wyldes are shrinking at an alarming rate.
Other than that, it’s business as usual. Doug’s smug when he realises that Charlie’s lied about his whereabouts to Diane… what’s he hiding? Shadrach tries to give up drink, but does he have the willpower? Cain’s determined to crack Natasha. Aaron and Jackson worry when they find Holly; she panics about her heart beating too fast after having overdosed on drugs.
Doug thinks he’s rumbled Charlie, suspecting that he’s got another woman. Meanwhile, David wants to come clean to Leyla. Diane’s furious to hear Doug’s been spying on Charlie. Rodney learns the grim extent of Charlie’s illness. Nikhil’s wary of Maisie and David’s desperate to win Leyla back. Charlie wants to call it a day now Diane knows about his illness. Nathan makes a big mistake by threatening Cain. Maisie’s attempts to seduce Nikhil fall flat…
Also on Emmerdale this week:
Leyla makes an unwelcome discovery
Charlie asks Rodney to keep his secret
Will Aaron keep Holly’s secret?
Coronation Street w/e 9 July
As regular readers of this blog know, I’m not the biggest fan of the Peacocks sans Fred Elliot – ah say, Fred Elliot. News that they were being written out didn’t surprise me. However, it looks like the writers are penning their departure around a child abuse scandal that smears their name, according to reports. Dev and Sunita will accuse Ashley and Claire of harming their son Aadi. Well, I’m gonna struggle to care about this storyline, I must admit.
Another plotline that I’m struggling with concerns Lloyd and Cheryl; I really can’t muster the energy to be interested in Cheryl’s various dramas; she has a black eye and Lloyd jumps to conclusions about her boss Mal.
Meanwhile, Graeme takes Tina on a magical mystery tour. Who’s liking Graeme and Tina? I think I preferred her with Jason if only because I don’t like seeing Graeme and David at odds – they’re a good duo and the writers should’ve kept them that way.
Ken and Deirdre prepare to welcome Lothario Lewis to their home… Sean’s missing his son. Lloyd seeks retribution for Cheryl. Carla’s gobsmacked as Nick welcomes her to ‘Nick’s Nicks’ and demands answers. Ciaran pulls out all the stops to impress Michelle by cooking a meal at her flat; how will she react when he makes a move? I’m not exactly cheering this prospective romance on – I’m just not the biggest Ciaran fan.
After reassuring Cheryl that she’s now safe, Lloyd asks her to stay at his flat. Sean plots to reconnect with his long lost son and Leanne learns of Nick’s deception.
Also on Coronation Street this week:
Carla demands answers from Nick
Lloyd’s shocked by Cheryl’s revelation
Steve wonders why he’s lost a contract
Hollyoaks w/e 9 July
After four years in the  soap, Gerard McCarthy is leaving Hollyoaks, but it’s "with the door wide open". Yes, we’re sayig goodbye to cross-dressing Kris Fisher. Of course he’s not the only Hollyoaks character who’s on the way out; it’s par for the course these days.

In the soap itself, Jacqui worries that Theresa’s secret will eventually be exposed – having said that, Theresa’s determined to tell the police the truth. Cindy continues to play with Darren’s emotions. Lauren visits Gaz in prison and confronts him about Calvin’s murder. Steph’s determined to be a TV star and enlists Gilly as her manager. Suzanne panics, thinking that Cindy will tell everyone about her and Darren.
Jake’s stunned when he finds Loretta in his bed. Tony proves Dave wrong about his alleged food poisoning. Steph continues to use her cancer as a trump card to ensure she gets what she wants. Josh is released from prison earlier than expected, much to Neville’s surprise. Loretta continues to spy on Jake. India and Jem battle for a job at the SU Bar. Elliot enters Nancy in the ‘Who’s The Hotty?’ competition and asks Charlotte to make sure that she wins. Charlotte enjoys the bar competition between Jem and India. Kyle makes an unwelcome return.
Also on Hollyoaks this week:
India secures the SU job
Cheryl wins big on a scratch card
Dave tries to scam Il Gnosh

That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Wednesday for more news and gossip and don’t forget to enter this week’s caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).

  1. sheila says:

Suggested Eastenders Storyline: Sayed falls madly in love with Sam Mitchell. This incenses Lucas who promptl;y bumps off Sam and Christian, thereby punishing Sayed for being upsetting his parents. Please keep Lucas, he is the only believable character in this soap.

Can anyone improve on this suggestion?
