Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).
Before we talk about what’s to come in EastEnders, news emerges that Danniella Westbrook’s return to Albert Square will be shrouded in a mystery.
Her character Sam Mitchell will arrive back claiming she’s carrying Ricky Butcher’s child. But is she?
According to the Daily Star, the baby could be Jack Branning’s. And this bombshell will be dropped as Jack gets ready to marry Ronnie. Oh dear!
So this week is a big one for Lucas and Denise as we’ll find out but in the meantime, Liz confides in Patrick . She tells him that she’s enlisted the help of a private detective to try and find her son. Stacey returns from hospital with her baby. Peggy’s frustrated as Glenda reconnects with her daughters. Lucy’s surprised to hear that Lauren’s in America. Elsewhere, Fatboy falls onto Trina’s tree and snaps it in half.
Jordan reveals that Trina’s tree has been destroyed, much to Lucas’s horror. A police forensic team looks for evidence as Lucas watches nervously. Eventually, a body is dug up; Lucas promptly tells Denise that he killed Owen.. Glenda and Ronnie have a heart-to-heart. Pat tries to get Ryan to see sense about Janine. Dot reveals to the locals that the body unearthed in the Square was Owen’s.

Emmerdale w/e Friday 2 July
Emmerdale’s Mark Charnock has been talking about his dream role: Spider-Man. The actor, who plays chef Marlon Dingle, said it’s the one part that could tempt him away from the rural soap. That’s kinda hilarious because there’s more chance of England winning the World Cup than there is of Mark Charnock being offered the role of Spider-Man. Dream on Mark! He told Inside Soap magazine that he really loves Emmerdale – good for him!
In the soap this week, Natasha’s put under pressure when her tormentor steps up his game. Shadrach’s drinking leads him into real danger. Natasha’s tormentor is sure that the Wyldes know where Mark is and arranges a meeting to confront them. Meanwhile, Marlon looks forward to a date with Rhona. Natasha’s stalker reveals himself and Shadrach decides his new home will be with Marlon.
Diane worries when Charlie doesn’t seem himself. Nathan’s acting suspiciously and that doesn’t escape people’s notice. Diane’s concerns for Charlie grow. Natasha’s shocked when she catches Nathan taking money from the safe – what’s he playing at?
Meanwhile, Nathan reveals the identity of their tormentor to Natasha who then has to decide what to do about her stalker. Marlon’s unimpressed when Shadrach discharges himself from hospital. Leyla’s bemused by David’s frostiness towards Declan. Maisie receives a mysterious birthday present with a tag signed ‘from Dad’ – what’s inside?

Coronation Street w/e Friday 2 July
According to the News of the World, Corrie will step into very controversial territory with a sex attack story centring on the love triangle between David Platt, Tina McIntyre and Graeme Proctor. You can guess who will be the attacker and who will be the victim; Platt’s back to being a psycho. I’m not a fan of certain storylines being used for the sake of ratings so I trust Corrie will be sensitive about this…
Hurt and spurred on by David’s spiteful comments, Jason throws Tina’s clothes onto the Street… There’s a lot to deal with – can Graeme and Tina cope with the repercussions of their romance? Meanwhile, despite offering an apparent olive branch to Tina, David reveals that he’s got a plan to split her and Graeme up. Expect ‘Damian’ David to go ga-ga over poor tortured Tina.
Now to a storyline I really don’t care about – Lloyd’s appalled that Cheryl’s got a black eye and jumps to conclusions about her boss Mal. I like Lloyd and I think Craig Charles is an asset to Corrie, but I’m beginning to think that the writers have got no idea what to do with his character.
Meanwhile, Mary ingratiates herself into Hayley’s wedding plans and a nervous Becky frets about what to take to her adoption meeting. Deirdre and Ken entertain Audrey and Lewis. Lloyd’s horrified to hear that Cheryl’s hubby Chris has hit her – and not for the first time…

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 2 July
Out with the old and in with the new as Hollyoaks bods confirm three more characters for the soap. Emmett Scanlan will play Brendan Brady, Karen Hassan will star as Cheryl Brady’s best friend Lynsey and Jonny Clarke will play trouble-maker Bart McQueen (a trouble-maker named Bart? Is this some kind of homage to The Simpsons?). The new arrivals come as a string of characters are on the way out: goodbye to Kris Fisher (Gerard McCarthy), Zak Ramsey (Kent Riley) and Jake Dean (Kevin Sacre).
Without a doubt, we’re well past the golden era of Hollyoaks; the question is, can this soap regain some ground and much-needed ratings? We’ll see. So this week, Anita and Ravi are disgusted to discover that Relish has been sprayed with racist graffiti. Gaz is furious that he’s been set up. Ravi’s determined not to give in to his enemies and isn’t gonna be intimidated. Cheryl does her best to be a comfort to Steph, but ends up being treated like a slave. Jacqui worries they can’t keep Theresa quiet forever.
Cindy enjoys toying with Darren’s feelings and Lauren isn’t convinced that Gaz is the killer. Cheryl’s worried about the Valentines. Dave’s sick as a dog after an all-night bender. Jake’s stunned when a face from the past suddenly turns up. Josh is released from prison early, much to Neville’s surprise.
Charlotte enjoys a sense of power as she pits India and Jem against each other. Cheryl celebrates her lottery win… then the worst happens. Nancy tries to find a sexy look, but she’s not having much luck. Lauren’s terrified when a knock at the door brings Kyle crashing back into her home.
