Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter the caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.
Hey soapsters, here’s a funny story to spice up your Wednesday morning (cos we’re definitely gonna need some cheering up if England don’t beat Slovenia this afternoon).
According to The Sun newspaper, Corrie legend Vera Duckworth is to return to Coronation Street…get this…as a GHOST!
Apparently Liz Dawn, who left the show a couple of years ago (after her iconic soap character, battleaxe Vera Duckworth, died) is being lined up to reappear on Coronation Street again before on-screen hubby,Jack Duckworth, finally leaves the show in December.
A Corrie insider said: "The scriptwriters have been trying to come up with a fitting end for Jack and the ghost idea has become a big hit among the crew."
Apparently, a source compared the plot to the famous scene when Bobby Ewing returned to the 1980s hit show, Dallas, months after being killed in a car crash stating:"It would be the most dramatic return from the grave since Bobby came out of the shower in Dallas."
Hey, I don’t know about you guys, but I think someone needs to remind the scriptwriters at Coronation Street that viewing figures for Dallas plummeted after the ‘Bobby steps-out-of- the-shower’ storyline aired. I mean, what a ridiculous idea…bringing Vera Duckworth back from the dead…if that’s not scraping the bottom of the storyline barrel, then I don’t know what is.
Anyway if the scriptwriters at Coronation Street insist on going down the route of bringing people back from the grave, then they might as well go all out for it and have a ‘Zombie Week’ on Corrie, where they could then bring back ‘all’ of the legendary characters of the past 50 years, including Richard Hillman;.that would certainly spice things up ahead of the shows’ anniversary celebrations.
So, what do you think guys…should Vera Duckworth return to the cobbles as a ghost? Let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment.
That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Friday for more news and gossip and don’t forget to enter this week’s caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).
