EastEnders’ Stacey gives birth

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter the caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).

EastEnders w/e Friday 25 June
Before we talk about Stacey, a quick bit of news. It won’t have escaped fans’ notice that there’s a lot of cast changes going on in the soaps at the moment. We’re getting ready to say goodbye to Barbara Windsor and Lacey Turner, but if Jake Wood has his way – we won’t have to worry about Max Branning for a long time.
He’s signed until next year, but the actor has revealed that he’s prepared to be around longer.  "As long as they’re happy for me to be here I’m happy to stay," he said. I doubt if Max is going anywhere anyway – the soap needs its stronger characters.
This week, Liz gets the wrong end of the stick with Patrick. Libby’s upset when she sees Darren and Jodie happy together.
Meanwhile, when Glenda gets under Peggy’s feet at the Vic, Ronnie hatches a plan. Stacey’s world is shattered by conniving Janine. Max follows his heart straight to Tanya, but is stunned when she reveals shocking news.
Elsewhere, Vanessa tries hard to stay on top of her double life and keep her husband sweet. It’s time for Stacey to give birth so – as the soap rulebook dictates – it’ll be far from easy. When a frantic Stacey goes into labour, the person she doesn’t want to see is the one that ends up being there for her.
Abi’s concerned about her dad and plays parent when a hung-over Max tries to get his act together. Liz realises she can’t continue her relationship with Patrick without Owen’s blessing. Janine’s gutted when Ryan packs his bags. Who said she didn’t have feelings?

Emmerdale w/e Friday 25 June
I was just talking about that revolving soap door and it looks like it’s turning again; according to the Daily Star Sunday, Emmerdale’s killing off Shadrach Dingle (played by Andy Devine). The actor, who is 67, had hoped that he’d be able to go into semi-retirement and film major Dingle storylines only. But it now looks like the Emmerdale bosses have taken the more dramatic option of killing the character off – that’s soapland for you.
So to the soap itself and Natasha’s horrified when a bouquet of flowers arrives with a card attached, signed ‘from Mark’. I don’t think Emmerdale’s ready to do a ‘Bobby Ewing in the shower’ so we know someone else has sent it. Shades of EastEnders’ Ian/Stephen Beale plot and Corrie’s David/Gail card ‘from Richard Hillman’ scenario.
Paddy’s slightly thrown to see that Jackson stayed over. Just as Natasha’s about to reveal all to Maisie, Nathan steps in and makes a confession. Diane admits that she can’t lose Charlie. Natasha’s desperate to put a stop to Maisie’s suspicions. Diane comes to a big decision over her future. Eve makes an impression when she starts work for the Kings. Charlie has a question for Diane and Cain’s curious about Nathan’s actions. Charlie shocks Diane when he proposes.

Coronation Street w/e Friday 25 June
If we didn’t know there’s a World Cup on, we certainly do this week; it has decimated the schedules for Corrie so enjoy the frugal offering that’s being served up. As some of you may know, I’m a huge fan of the quirky – at times, downright odd – Graeme Proctor (brilliantly played by Craig Gazey). I’m really pleased to see him get a love life, but I’m almost sorry that the girl in question is Tina McIntyre. Aren’t there any more young, available women in Weatherfield? The only bloke she hasn’t kissed is Norris!
So poor Jason’s devastated when Tina refuses to give their relationship another go. Ciaran prepares for the speed dating night, but Michelle insists that she’s not interested in him. Fiz isn’t happy that Charlotte knows John’s secret. The factory girls are confused when they discover that Nick’s trading under a new name. Graeme can’t believe his luck when Tina tells him that she wants to be with him. Ches refuses to go to college after his exams so Fiz attempts to call his bluff.
Jason changes the locks and kicks Tina out. Lewis turns on the smarm and charm to Deirdre; it’s not long before she’s talking openly with him about Ken. Oh Deirdre! What would Blanche think? After handcuffing David to a radiator, Graeme explains that he’s seeing Tina (hahahahaha!)

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 25 June
Is Nick Pickard really thinking about quitting Hollyoaks? Are we going to have to say goodbye to Tony Hutchinson? The Daily Star Sunday reports that Nick’s not happy about the way his brother John (who plays Dominic Reilly) found out he was being axed from the soap. Troubling times for Hollyoaks – what with people leaving and the ratings at their lowest. Keep an eye on things cos if it gets much worse, I reckon Channel 4 will move it to E4 permanently. Or axe it. After all, they axed Brookside.
I’m sure even fans will admit that this soap has seen better days; let’s hope things pick up. This week, Tony heroically rushes into action to help a woman hit by a car… he later learns she’s mother of two, Gabby Sharpe. Rhys does his best to smooth tensions between Suzanne and Neville. Meanwhile, as Newt struggles to explain Rae’s curse to Frankie, he gets inspired. Rhys realises he has to do something about Neville and Suzanne.
Darren gets the cold shoulder from Suzanne. Newt and Rae are shattered from looking after baby Jensen all night. Tony’s quick to judge Gabby for trying to run out on her husband. Cindy hopes to make the most of Elliot’s new culinary genius. Newt tries to stop Frankie calling Social Services.
Cindy continues with her plans for Tony to adopt Holly. Meanwhile, it’s Rae’s birthday, the day she’s destined to die – but she’s more concerned with Newt’s plans to run away with baby Jenson. Rhys enjoys putting the fear into Darren. Has he told Neville? Tony can’t quite believe he’s about to embark on a new life with Gabby.
