Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.
Hey guys, here’s a bit of sad news for all you Hollyoaks fans out there; Carley Stenson, who’s played Steph Cunningham for the past ten years, is quitting the show! The 27-year-old long standing actress has confirmed that she’s leaving Hollyoaks to pursue a career in musical theatre.
Her decision to leave the Channel 4 soap, comes hot on the heels of a big storyline for her character, Steph Cunningham, who’s recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of 24. Apparently the storyline was brought in by the soap bosses at Channel 4 to raise awareness of the issues surrounding cervical cancer among young women.
Speaking of her decision to leave, Stenson said: "Leaving Hollyoaks is one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. It has been my dream job for ten years and I shall miss all of the fantastic friends I have made in the cast and crew." She added: "I am very sad to leave but I’m ready for new challenges and I’m looking forward to pursuing a career in musical theatre."
Producer Paul Marquess commented: "We are obviously very sad to see Steph go – she has been a much-loved character on the show for a decade, but we wish Carley all the best for a very bright and successful career."
Over the years, Carley Stenson’s character has been involved some big storylines, including being diagnosed with epilepsy, Niall Rafferty’s psychotic revenge and the death of her husband Max on their wedding day. But I suppose that what we’re all dying to find out is how the producers of Hollyoaks plan to write Carely’s character out of the show? What ever they decide to do, let’s just hope that the door is left open for Carley Stenson to return to Hollyoaks at some point in the future, because Hollyoaks just won’t be the same with out her.
So, how do you think Steph Cunningham should be written out of Hollyoaks. Let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment.
