Danniella Westbrook returns to EastEnders again

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).
Before we talk about what’s to come in EastEnders, news emerges that Danniella Westbrook will once again make a return to Albert Square and the role of Sam Mitchell.
Lately a contestant on Dancing On Ice, she’s due to pop up in the soap some time in the summer. Her last EastEnders stint was from September 2009 to January of this year. There’s speculation that her return ties in with Barbara Windsor’s departure as Peggy Mitchell.
Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood told Digital Spy: "When Sam Mitchell is in Albert Square, trouble is never far behind. We last saw her heading for a stretch in prison and ostracised by her family. When she returns on her release, it’s with a lot of grudges and a big secret."
OK then – how long should we give her this time? Any bets? I’m going with three months at the most. How do you feel about Sam Mitchell (and Danniella Westbrook) coming back to EastEnders? Feel free to leave a comment.
EastEnders w/e Friday 11 June
Is it me or does EastEnders feel like it’s in a bit of limbo at the moment? I feel like the old soap’s treading water. Maybe it’s just me. Anyway, Phil returns from a weekend binge determined to win Ben back, but with social services investigating the family, Phil worries he could lose both his kids.

Meanwhile, an increasingly unstable Lucas is rattled by idle gossip. Jordan confesses all and tells Denise that he and his mates bullied Ben. Denise battles with Lucas after discovering the truth about the attack.

Darren’s met with a surprise discovery of his own after a date with Jodie. Lucy makes a desperate decision about her exams. It’s the day of the court case; will Jordan’s new evidence change Ben’s fate? Max discovers Vanessa’s been – how shall I put it? – economical with the truth. Yeah, that’s sounds good. OK over to Lucas now and he continues to go off his rocker. Personally, I’m finding it hard to care about his storyline. A shame – Don Gilet deserves better.

Roxy tells Danny about a business opportunity
Glenda needs a place to stay
Stacey’s unhappy that Jean and Mo have arranged a baby shower
Hollyoaks w/e Friday 11 June
So often it seems, we hear soap stars say they’re hoping ot make it big in America – few do. However, ex-Hollyoaks star Barry Sloane – who played crazed Niall Rafferty –  is to tread the boards in New York. He’ll star alongside The Office actor Mackenzie Crook in Jerusalem on Broadway. Wil it be the start of something big for him? We shall see.
Over in the soap he once starred in, Kris is worried about Martin’s request to help assist in his suicide. Jacqui makes an appointment for Theresa to have an abortion. Rae struggles with her revision. Duncan wants to lift Ricky’s spirits. Carmel goes through the last of Calvin’s belongings – is a surprise in store for her? Darren struggles to adjust to his new love-bird flatmates. Duncan’s angry that Martin could be taken away from Ricky. Elsewhere, Michaela proves useful helping out at The Loft with Sasha and Spencer.
Newt tries to encourage Rae to live for the moment. Mercedes thinks she and Malachy will look guilty if they don’t return to work at The Loft. Ravi tries to get back in touch with the mysterious Kate. Carmel makes sure Theresa hasn’t told anyone that she thinks she’s pregnant. Nancy comes across a letter that Steph has lost – she tries to resist and then eventually reads it (naughty!).
Newt’s disturbed when Darren tells him he thinks Rae’s lying about being over the curse. Anita hasn’t told Ravi that Kate’s really Eva, her biological mother. Steph’s horrified to realise that her secret’s out. Lauren accidentally lets slip about Theresa’s termination to Carmel… will Carmel make it to the clinic in time to save Calvin’s baby?
Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Steph’s resolved to beat her cancer
Newt forces Lauren to come clean
Kris calls in professional help
Coronation Street w/e Friday 11 June
There are funny stories and then, there are funny stories. This is one of the funniest I’ve heard in a while. According to the News Of The World, Coronation Street bosses are censoring the boobs of Rovers landlady Liz McDonald. Apparently, when shot with the high-definition cameras, the cleavage looks too "eye-popping". To combat this, they’ve toned down the wardrobe of Street bike Liz. A source told the newspaper: "Her cleavage was bursting out of the screen in HD." What a great story.
To more serious matters now – events in Cumbria have had an effect on the scheduling of Corrie and have impacted the Tony Gordon saga. We will see some episodes that should’ve aired last week.
On with the acion – David takes the stand to battle for mum Gail’s innocence. Poor, terrified Gail’s led into the dock to hear her sentence; will she be found guilty or not guilty? Well, they’ve shot alternative endings so it’s anyone’s guess. I think she’ll be found… not guilty. They’ve already done this storyline before with Weatherfield One Deirdre – can’t see them going down this road again.
The Barlows are called to hospital where they find a battered Tracy. Roy, Gary, Trev, Steve, Tyrone and Ashley attempt to break into the factory as a manic Tony sparks his lighter; how many people will Tony take down in his quest for vengeance?
Carla’s arrested for her actions against Tony and Tina breaks down after Joe’s boat’s returned to the Street. Tracy’s actions cause friction between Peter and Nick… will she get her comeuppance? Owen’s back on the Street… can Izzy bury the hatchet with him?
Izzy’s father introduces himself to the locals. Carla receives more unsettling news after her ordeal. Nick struggles to keep Underworld afloat… Leanne’s got a decision to make; will she go behind Peter’s back to help him? Roy attempts to win Hayley back. Lewis has a shocking announcement for Audrey…
Also on Coronation Street this week:
Paul blasts Nick
Roy’s romantic gesture is ruined
Chesney lies about his exams.
Emmerdale w/e Friday 11 June
On a personal note, I don’t like the word ‘cougar’, but that’s how new Emmerdale character Tania Page (played by Bad Girls star Victoria Pritchard) has been painted. She’s a man-eater basically and she’s got her sights on David. This type of character is nothing new – it’s been a soap staple for years (like ‘the battleaxe’ or ‘the tart-with-a-heart’), but now it has to have the label ‘cougar’ – well I won’t be using it.
Anway, David’s meeting with Tania has a sting in the tail. Nicola refuses to face up to her impending court case. Charlie’ s pleased to have Andy’s blessing. David discovers who’s pulling Tania’s strings. Nicola’s gutted when her court date’s moved to clash with the wedding. Paddy’s upset when he discovers that Rhona’s his competition for the new practice. Seasoned soap watcher’s won’t be surprised to learn that Nicola’s forced to delay the wedding til after her court appearance. Soaps never run smoothly on soaps…
Aaron struggles to cope with Jackson being around the Village. Jackson puts Aaron in his place. Cain enjoys winding Declan up. Aaron sees that there might be hope with Jackson. Charlie proves himself a hero to Diane. Leyla’s excited when David hints they might have the money for the shop. Diane and Charlie’s relationship moves up a gear. Maisie’s chuffed to see Natasha getting closer to Declan.
Also on Emmerdale this week:
David realises he’s been set up
Carl’s tempted by Eve.
Nicola receives some devastating news

That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Wednesday for more news and gossip and don’t forget to enter this weeks caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).

OMG how dreadful that Sam is returning to EE. She can\’t act , wears too much slap and adds nothing to the soap.Get rid of her again quickly couldn\’t she die?

  2. Marilyn says:

Couldn\’t agree more! She\’s a reason not to watch.

  3. Denise says:

Eastenders is rubbish at the moment because, as always, they are trying to pander to teenagers and to minorities at the expense of the quality. Denise and Lucas (and their family) are absolutely brilliant, real characters and excellent actors – as are the Masoods. Why then the need to add \’token\’ minority characters like Arthur\’s Nigerian auntie? I know that particular actress is a good but in this she isn\’t allowed to be ! Characters like Heather are an insulting characateurs which say (yawn) that fat people are stupid. Why are intelligent, attractive, successful overweight characters never depicted? (particularly in the case of women). rubyrussell@live.com

The whole program has got very, very stale. What it needs now is new stories, new players and a bit of cheer now and again.

  5. lisa says:
