Hello and welcome to a belated edition of A Slice Of Soap. Sorry this is late – I wasn’t feeling well yesterday. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).
EastEnders w/e Friday 28 May
Before we get down to the happenings in Albert Square (Leon and Whitney!), some news about former EastEnders stars Kara Tointon and Joe Swash; the couple have split up after nearly two years together.
According to a source who spilt the beans to The News of the World, "their rows were getting too frequent and they knew they couldn’t make it work anymore," said the insider. I wish them the best of luck moving forward.
In the show, Jordan’s discovered unconscious in the Arches and Phil’s shocked when Ben admits that he’s responsible. Wow – who’d’ve thought he’d be a right old chip off the block? That’s a Mitchell for sure. Anyway, Lucas, Denise and Chelsea learn that Jordan’s fractured his ankle and skull. Whitney’s frustrated when she finds out that Billie’s application to join the army’s been accepted. Janine’s still determined to win her bet with Ryan about kissing Lucas. Whitney asks Leon for help in shifting more T-shirts.
Janine and Ryan continue their flirty banter. Ben’s pushed to the limit and decides to confess to the police. Leon suggests that he and Whitney are more than just friends.
Meanwhile, Stacey pulls a knife on Heather and Whitney’s furious at Leon for kissing her. Phil’s stunned when Minty reveals all about Ben’s public confession.

Emmerdale w/e Friday 28 May
How are we feeling about the Bartons? I must admit, I can take them or leave them. Maybe they just need more time. Anyway, Natalie J Robb – who plays Moira Barton – told the Scottish Daily Record how she uses her own life to help her with the role: "Because I don’t have my own children," she said, when I read something in the script I think how would my mum have reacted to that and how my mum was with me." I’m sure he mum’s very proud to see her daughter on TV.
This week, Natalie’s at the centre of things as her character Moira, and husband John, discover some troubling news about Holly. Bob vows not to give up on Viv (that’s the spirit Bob!) Diane returns from Paris and she’s on top of the world. Viv realises that her marriage is over, but is all hope lost? Meanwhile, Aaron starts his community payback. John decides tough love’s the best option with Holly. Aaron finds himself the target of bullying at community payback.
Viv attempts to stop Bob seeing the twins. Maisie’s chuffed to be asked out by Nikhil. Aaron tries to apologise to Jackson, but it falls on deaf ears. Diane’s disappointed to learn Charlie must return to France. Cain and Declan lock horns over building work and Aaron’s gutted after his run in with Jackson.

Coronation Street w/e Friday 28 May
According to reports, Coronation Street’s Audrey Roberts is to become involved in a Shirley Valentine-style plot. She’ll sell her business and move to a Greek island with gigolo lover Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers). That’s so weird – is Audrey leaving Weatherfield for good? I really hope not because I like her run-ins with grandson David.
In the Street this week, we’re spending a lot of time in prison. First Ken and Deirdre visit Tracy in the hope of finding out what she’s said about Gail, and then there’s Tony Gordon. You just can’t keep a good villain down – and he’s a damn good villain (although Richard Hillman remains my fave). Graeme’s secret visits to Tina don’t go unnoticed.
Relations are strained between Roy and Hayley and he’s stunned when Hayley suggests they need some space… will he be able to convince her that she’s making a mistake? Carla’s under pressure as the factory staff struggle to process a big order. Tina makes a shocking announcement to the Platts and the pressure’s beginning to mount on Nick and Carla in Underworld.
Lloyd tries to turn on the charm with Cheryl – blimey. He really can pick ’em, can’t he? Meanwhile, the Street’s resident psycho Tony Gordon is up to something – he’s planning something big from his cell. David panics when the Platts hear that Gail’s trial is going ahead despite the new witness statement.
Hayley breaks down as the stress of her separation from Roy takes hold. David’s worried that the police know about the Anka bribe. Let’s hope he and Nick’s illegal actions don’t put Gail’s trial in jeopardy. Ken and Deirdre wonder if Tracy’s lying about Gail’s confession…

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 28 May
So the big news is that Hollyoaks has pulled in its highest ratings in a month with 1.2m tuning in following the ‘who shot Calvin’? reveal. The first episode after the revelation drew 1.24 million – the show’s highest numbers since 26 April. It sounds impressive until you realise that years ago, this show used to pull in those kinds of figures on a bad day. Will Channel 4 pull the plug? Will the show get back to its prime? We shall see.
Talking Calvin, it’s pandemonium in the aftermath of his shooting and while Jacqui learns a secret, Theresa decides she needs to come clean. Meanwhile, Jacqui tries to get rid of the gun but before she can, Malachy confronts her – did she kill Calvin? Kris learns that Archie’s been supplying Elliot with drugs. Mercedes receives a grilling from DI Andrews and quickly lets slip about her affair with Calvin.
Theresa nearly comes clean to Carmel that she killed Calvin. Leo and Sasha fear for Lauren’s safety. Jacqui burns the bridesmaids’ dresses in the hope of eradicating any evidence linking them to Calvin’s murder. Did she kill him or is she covering for Mercedes? Cheryl and Kris are convinced that Mercedes killed Calvin. Elliot’s in a panic about his exams. DI Andrews turns up at the McQueens’ to take Mercedes in for a further round of questioning. Desperate to save Mercedes, Malachy tells Andrews that he shot Calvin…
