Coronation Street’s Peacocks axed

Hello and welcome to another edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.  What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).

Coronation Street w/e Friday 30 April

First, some news that absolutely doesn’t surprise me; it’s the end of the road for Ashley (Steven Arnold) and Claire (Julia Haworth) Peacock in Coronation Street.
An ITV spokesperson said: "All parties agreed this was the right time to say goodbye to the Street’s Peacock family." It’s been the right time for a couple of years! Ever since actor John Savident, ah say actor John Savident, left his role as butcher Fred Elliot, ‘Clurrrrr’ and Ashley have largely been redundant. I wish I could say that I’ll miss them – but I’d be lying.
This week, there’s more action with Nigel Havers as Lewis. I’m not the only person wishing he could stay a bit longer in the soap, am I? I love the old smoothie Nigel Havers. Anyway, Lewis stuns Audrey into silence with a kiss. Mary takes a nervous Norris away. Dev and Sunita finally move back into the Street. Can I just say hooray! at that news? I am an unashamed fan of Dev – he cracks me up. I hope the writers don’t screw up Sunita and Dev too soon. Wouldn’t it be funny if they could become the new Jack and Vera?
Audrey worries about Lewis’s feelings for her – are they genuine? Mary recruits a reluctant Norris in her competition scheme. David catches Gary sneaking back home. Audrey’s delighted when Lewis turns up, but will jealous Rita come between the pair? Really! Aren’t they both old enough to know better? David tries to convince Gary to come clean to his family. A grief stricken Tina’s still trying to cope with her loss and the Army arrive to search for Gary.
Also on Coronation Street this week:
Tina collapses in the butchers
Norris becomes wary of Mary’s intentions
Molly’s pleased when Tyrone agrees to look at new houses
Hollyoaks w/e Friday 30 April
Ex-Emmerdale star Sheree Murphy has admitted it was a "difficult decision" to take a role in Hollyoaks. She’s signed up as Eva, the long-lost mum of Saira Choudhry (Anita Roy). Sheree told This Morning that she had to give the part some thought because it would mean spending less time with husband Harry Kewell, who is based in Turkey as a footballer. Thing is, she couldn’t be joining at a more unstable time – let’s see how it all works out.
In the meantime, Hollyoaks has definitely got the whiff of a soap in transition and it will be some time before we get a sense of where it is. This week, Calvin invites Leo to The Loft for some wine tasting. Lauren and Gaz attempt to educate Spencer about the rules of dating. A guilt-ridden Zak confesses all about his one night stand with Laura. Josh is heartbroken when he realises that Rhys and India have been seeing each other. Lauren begins to regret her actions of the night before. India’s determined to get things back on track with Rhys. Zak’s on edge, fearing that Michaela will discover his infidelity. Suzanne’s resentful at both Rhys and Josh.
Meanwhile, a boring day for Anita and Theresa suddenly turns more interesting when a mystery man named Kyle breaks down in the Village. Zak’s still refusing to attend Caleb’s funeral. Everything’s going wrong with the wedding plans so a stressed Carmel decides that she and Calvin should elope. Theresa’s on cloud nine after bagging herself a good looking, rich boyfriend. Things spiral out of control in the Ashworth family as Josh is charged with assaulting his dad. Theresa’s shocked when Kyle threatens her.
Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Lauren and Gaz lie to Spencer
Michaela admits that she knows Zak’s secret
Rhys comes to blows with his mother
EastEnders w/e Friday 30 April

Before we move on to the action in EastEnders, ex-Walford star Ricky Groves (Garry Hobbs) has been talking about his personal life following his split from fellow ex-Enders star Hannah Waterman. He said: "I don’t think I’d get married again, but never say never." I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who felt the writing would be on the wall for Minty, played by Cliff Parisi, the minute Ricky Groves was axed. In this case, you can’t have one without the other.

So matters are coming to a head for Amira; she learns the truth about Syed’s infidelity and takes action by leaving Walford. Chelsea confides in Denise and Libby that she’s carrying Jack’s baby. I wonder what will happen to Denise now that she’s effectively losing both her daughters? I just hope she can stay on the show…
Ben and Louise argue when she admits to reading his diary. The Masoods realise that Syed’s gone. Becca’s annoyed that Whitney’s stall is thriving and calls in a favour from Mo. Phil shows Shirley Ben’s diary comments.
Amira’s father arrives in Walford in search of Syed. Ronnie’s surprised to discover that there’s no money in the R&R safe. Peggy and Pat are completely unaware that they’re both meeting Harvey. Jane tries to talk Ian into going on holiday. Roxy’s taken aback when Ronnie asks if she can have the £150,000 she lost when Sam skipped bail. Meanwhile, Fatboy sets up Becca, much to Whitney’s amusement. Adam drunkenly broadcasts the news of Chelsea’s pregnancy.
Also on EastEnders this week:
Pat and Peggy are shocked by Dot’s revelation
Billie has a second interview for the army
Phil defends Syed

Emmerdale w/e Friday 30 April

Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chastity Dingle, has admitted that she does not have the time to watch any soap operas – despite acting in one. The 33-year-old is too tired to watch them. She is yet another star of the rural soap to praise the storyline about Aaron Livesy (played by Danny Miller) coming to terms with his sexuality.

On that subject, Chas and Paddy anxiously wait to see if Aaron will wake up. Pollard’s in all kinds of trouble after Olena’s deportation. Holly continues to go behind her parents’ back. Zak’s keen to make amends with Sam. Roz supplies Holly with some pills. A downbeat Eli receives a letter from Olena; using their lottery winnings, Ashley’s distant behaviour worries Laurel. Aaron comes around. After treatment, he is discharged and Paddy worries about how he’ll cope. Pollard encourages Sam to forgive Zak. Laurel’s saddened that Ashley remains distant. Eli’s actions leave Pollard’s life in danger… will Sam get the blame for Eli’s crime?

Chas decides she needs to keep a closer eye on Aaron. Edna’s keen to find Eve a job. Natasha’s wary of Declan’s business plans. Chas does her best to show Aaron her support. Eli decides to leave, but will he do the right thing before he goes? Natasha’s put out by Declan’s interest in Maisie. Adam’s impressed when Eve arrives for her first day on the farm. Eli comes clean and leaves the village – Marlon tries to stop him but Eli keeps on walking.

Also on Emmerdale this week:
Chas comes to blows with Aaron in hospital
David’s furious with Pollard
Gennie and Jamie decide to go to Newquay

That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Wednesday for more soap news and gossip and don’t forget to try this week’s caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).
