Hello and welcome to another edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.
Well soapsters, I’m sure that by now you’ve all heard the sad news that Coronation Street’s Bill Tarmey, who’s played the legendary soap character, Jack Duckworth for 30 years is leaving the show.
Speaking of his decision to quit, Tarmey said: "I had originally wanted to retire last year but producer Kim Crowther and my wife Ally persuaded me to stay for the show’s 50th anniversary and I am glad that I made that decision."
He added: "I have had some great storylines over the past three decades and I am looking forward to seeing what Jack’s final story will be."
Well guys, according to the Daily Star, one option on the table would see Jack Duckworth bow out of Corrie for a new life in the sun following a EuroMillions jackpot win. Apparently insiders have claimed that this idea is most favoured by the shows writers, as it would leave the door open for Jack to return for one-off specials.
A source said: "Lots of ideas are in the melting pot, but this is the most exciting. It could mean we won’t have seen the last of Jack."
Tarmey’s final scenes are expected to tie in with Corrie’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Let’s just hope that what ever exit-storyline the producers come up with, that it will be one fitting for a Weatherfield legend.
So, soapsters have you got any ideas of how Jack Duckworth should be written out of Corrie? Let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment.
That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Friday for the result of this week’s caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me (but keep it clean!).
