EastEnders’ Christian tells Syed to choose

Hello and welcome to another edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.  What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).
EastEnders w/e Friday 16 April
It’s a big week for EastEnders star John Partridge – both on the soap and off. Don’t forget he can also be seen as a judge searching for a new Dorothy on the BBC’s Over The Rainbow.
Anyway, John has been talking about the Christian/Syed storyline. He hopes the couple’s love affair will bloom into a proper open, and very much out, relationship.
At least I’ve been able to buy into this gay love affair; remember Sonia and Naomi? Shudder. That was totally ridiculous.
So this week in Albert Square, Dot’s forced to explain to Jack that he’s paralysed down the left side of his body. Meanwhile, concerned by the state of their love life, Amira asks Christian for advice about Syed. Ben returns home with a bruise on his shoulder.
Leon takes Zsa Zsa for a romantic meal. Pat makes a suggestion to Peggy; she tells her that she should run in the local council election. Zsa Zsa receives a mystery present from ‘The Blue Masquerader’ who Leon presumes is Fatboy.
Phil’s suspicious when Ben says holiday club has been cancelled. Dot tries to convince Ronnie to visit Jack in hospital. Ben reluctantly agrees to give football another go for his father. Fatboy goes out with Libby on the first of his three dates, but soon realises he’s been set up.
Ben and Louise continue to compete for Phil’s attention. Darren manages to convince Max to give him a month’s trial at the Car Lot. Christian tells Syed that he needs to decide who he wants to be with.

Emmerdale w/e Friday 16 April
Over in Emmerdale – there’s big news centring around Aaron Livesy, played by Danny Miller. The young teen is coming to terms with being gay but is struggling with his sexuality. According to a report in The Sun, he will attempt suicide because he doesn’t want people to find out about his homosexuality. Lots of angst to come from this storyline – look out for those scenes later this month.
To the rest of the drama and Sam’s heartbroken when he sees Olena kissing Eli. Meanwhile, Cain’s keen for Charity to keep their windfall under wraps. John and Moira are hopeful about buying the farm. Eve makes a move on Ryan. Nicola’s chuffed that the date’s been set for the wedding. Olena just can’t have a quiet life, can she? Now the girl’s gone and got herself arrested and Sam’s distraught. Ryan attempts to clear the air with Katie. Cain’s amused when Chas shares her suspicions about Charity. Cain and Charity’s attempt to steal another car takes an unfortunate turn. It’s clear that someone has betrayed Olena, but who?
Sam finds out the identity of the snitch. Paddy’s glad that Aaron seems more positive – that’s what love will do to you. A happy Aaron shares a kiss with Jackson but he’s mortified when he realises that Adam’s seen them. Cain simmers as Charity’s forced to meet Declan. Nicola’s furious to discover that Jimmy’s secretly friends with Carl.

Coronation Street w/e Friday 16 April
Before we get on to the latest with Sophie and Sian, a little news about soap legend Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow. He has revealed he is 50% deaf in both ears and must be given visual cues on the cobbles of The Street. He said: "People don’t know I have got a hearing problem. Deafness is extremely isolating. I live in a cocooned world."
I bet Ken wishes he’d been hearing impaired when dear old Blanche was on one of her "Kenneth" rants. The show definitely misses you Maggie Jones – rest in peace.
So – what did you guys make of the kiss? The tabloids went for titillation in their reporting which isn’t a surprise. I’m going to be eager to see how Corrie did in the ratings. This week, Fiz tries to convince John not to follow through with his plan. Meanwhile, love struck Sophie’s desperate for Sian. Becky and Steve realise the hard way that they’re not the only couple looking to adopt…
Sophie runs off to Southport to confront Sian. Fiz is frosty with John after learning that he intends to steal Colin’s identity and insists that she’ll play no part in it.
Sian’s angry when she sees Sophie on her doorstep but she reluctantly lets her in so that they can talk about their kiss. Lewis pays Audrey another work visit (oh I do love Nigel Havers! Such a smoothie!). John forges ahead with his plan to steal his old friend’s identity and manages to secure a teaching job.
Kevin’s cool as Tyrone talks about the scan, but when he sees the baby boy on screen, the reality of the situation hits Kevin hard. Meanwhile, Graeme’s complex love life comes back to bite him. Kevin suggests to Molly that she have an abortion and claim that it was a miscarriage. I am sooo over this storyline!

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 16 April
Ricky Whittle is outta Hollyoaks; he’s filmed his final scenes as Calvin Valentine. The Strictly Come Dancing runner-up has been busy with his tweets. He said on Twitter: "Died again today at work, one more day (die again!) to go then it’s off into the big wide world, exciting, gonna miss Oaks and everyone there." Apparently he’s hoping to pursue a career in America. Well, he’s got the looks. But will he have the luck? Many have tried and many have failed.
In the soap itself, having had enough of Zak’s slovenly ways, Michaela issues an ultimatum. A mysterious phone call leaves Zak horrified. Amy’s concerned when Olly meets Ste and Josh for the first time. The guilt of what happened with Ricky’s weighing on Kris’s mind. Zak struggles to take in the news of his brother’s death and makes a snap decision to ask Michaela to marry him. Ste’s jealous of Josh’s friendship with Olly. Jem’s finding life in Hollyoaks difficult after living the romantic dream with Gilly in Thailand.
Plans for Jem’s Greek God-themed night are in full swing. Elliot’s in a quandary after Archie approaches him for money. Steph’s plan to split Gilly and Jem up is working. Zak insists on having drinks with the lads to celebrate his engagement. Josh starts drinking again and is left unconscious in a dark alleyway.
