Hello and welcome to another edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soap news?
Well, departing EastEnders star Barbara Windsor says she wants EastEnders bosses to create a West End musical based on the soap.
According to a report in The Sun, the former Carry On actress said producers could look to Cockney musical Fings Ain’t Wot They Used T’Be, a project she starred in back in the 1960s.
The musical, from the pen of the late great Lionel Bart who also composed the songs for classic production Oliver!, featured colourful characters such as gamblers, spivs, prostitutes, Teddy boys and girls and bent police.
Apart from the Teddy boys and girls, it does sound like an episode of EastEnders, doesn’t it?
Barbara Windsor added: "I wouldn’t like to be the star of the musical. I would want to be second lead, leave it to someone else to take all the crap!" She is bowing out of the soap and her role as the one and only Peggy Mitchell very soon.
That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Friday for the result of the caption competition and don’t forget to try this week’s caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me.
