Bradley proposes to Stacey in EastEnders

Hello and welcome to another edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.  What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out (spoilers ahead).

EastEnders w/e Friday Jan 29

We’ll start with congratulations to Lacey Turner for her National Television Award win for Serial Drama Performance. She deserves it.

Next is the news that EastEnders actress Preeya Kalidas has quit her role as Amira Shah. We all knew Syed’s marriage was never gonna last.
Now the Enders writers have a great excuse for making the marriage fail. Talking of people leaving – it’s a big week for Bradley and Stacey in EastEnders. Read on for more…

Ricky’s stunned by Janine’s revelation about Pat. Ronnie reveals that she’s had a call informing her that Archie’s body’s to be released. Ronnie’s surprised that Roxy’s renting the Car Lot to Max. Ronnie admits that she went to visit their mother and Roxy’s shocked to hear Glenda’s claims that they have a secret brother.

Elsewhere, a drunken Jean tells Bradley and Stacey that Archie’s killer may have attacked Pat. Christian refuses to return to work at Masala Queen.

The Mitchells gather to hear Roxy read Archie’s pathology report. Janine tells DCI Marsden the truth about Ian. Bradley attempts to hide Stacey’s engagement ring. The residents of Walford turn out to pay their final respects to Archie. It seems a bit odd to write the word ‘respect’ next to Archie Mitchell. Bradley and Stacey reluctantly attend the funeral. Stacey Corners Becca in the hallway of the Slaters’; can she trust Becca to keep her secret? Bradley shocks Stacey with a proposal – will she say yes?

Hollyoaks w/e Friday Jan 29

Is it just me or has Ricky Whittle barely been out of the papers since the end of Strictly Come Dancing? Now the Oaks star has reportedly hit out at Hollyoaks bosses for refusing to give him extra time off for new projects. He apparently told The Mirror that he’s been inundated with offers of work since his "life-changing" Strictly stint. Will he be leaving the soap when his contract is up? We’ll have to wait and see. I’m willing to bet that he’ll be off.

In Hollyoaks this week, Calvin and Mercedes’ passionate kiss is witnessed by a stunned Kris. Meanwhile, Gilly feels awful for the way he’s treated Cheryl. It’s full steam ahead for Zoe and Kris as plans for their travelling adventure gather speed. Kris struggles to cope with the pressure of knowing that Mercedes is having an affair. Michaela turns to Mike as her frustrations about Zoe intensify. Cheryl and a troubled Steph prepare for Fruitopia day at MOBS and Gilly’s feeling down in the dumps.

Sasha’s annoyed that she’s working in the Loft and determined not to bow down to Calvin, she insists she’s going to have a party instead. Alone in the village, Sasha’s dragged from behind into an alleyway; she finds herself fighting for her life… Cheryl’s worried when Steph admits Mobs needs to tighten its belt. Zak tries to persuade Hayley to face up to the realities of her pregnancy. Meanwhile, as Hannah plans her travels, Rhys becomes increasingly frustrated. Is he genuinely concerned for his sister or just jealous?

Coronation Street w/e Friday Jan 29

I couldn’t believe it when Coronation Street won Best Soap at the National Television Awards. Neither could their rivals apparently. They kicked up a big stink alleging bias. But the adjudicator confirmed that Corrie had a "significant gain over the other contenders" throughout the voting periods and is therefore a "valid winner". On top of that news, I am personally ecstatic that Craig Gazey (Graeme Proctor) picked up the Newcomer trophy; he thoroughly deserved his win as he always makes me laugh. He was genuinely excited about it too, wasn’t he?

So this week, Becky and Steve are still at loggerheads (I love Steve!). Meanwhile, desperate Joe makes an appointment with one of those firms that buys houses for cash behind Gail’s back… Graeme’s still smitten with Rosie. Graeme, find something that will treat you better – like a puppy. Becky receives terrible news about her mother.

Tyrone psyches himself up to ask Molly to give him another chance. Kevin’s furious that Rosie’s still planning to go ahead with her boob job. Will Sophie be able to talk her out of the operation?

Tyrone’s left devastated by Molly’s rejection. Joe makes a call to the life insurance company. Janice has a run-in with binman Trevor. George persuades Peter to accompany him to the Oakhill open day as he’s still determined to have a say in his grandson’s education; how will Ken react when he finds out what they’re up to? Dev makes a suggestion to Sunita; he thinks they should spend more time together as a family. Gail’s pleased when Ted turns up to stay but Joe’s less than happy about the arrival of his father-in-law.

Emmerdale w/e Friday Jan 29

On Emmerdale this week, the police are getting closer to finding out what happened to Mark Wylde. I can’t be the only person missing Mark Wylde can I? But while the Old Bill are stepping up the search, actor Maxwell Caulfield has revealed that he’d like to star in The Bill. Well of course he would! We all know it’s been the retirement home for soap stars for years now. Maybe we’ll see him on a reality TV show soon too…

This week, Charity’s determined to land a job in order to save for the wedding. Carl’s forced to employ her as a driver, much to Nikhil and Cain’s frustration. Edna’s frightened by Sally’s manner and suggests that she pack her bags. Meanwhile, Charity’s curious when Cain suggests that she should try and persuade Carl to employ her permanently.  Edna tells a grateful Ashley that Sally’s left. However, unbeknown to them, Sally’s watching them from a window at the B&B… is there no end to Sally’s scheming?

Charity and Cain are still trying to think of ways to con Carl to pay for the wedding. Elsewhere, Chas is becoming increasingly frustrated when Carl continues palming off Thomas and Anya onto other people. Ashley’s devastated to discover that Mulberry’s been violently trashed… Natasha’s heartbroken when Will constantly questions Mark’s whereabouts. Later she tells Will that Ryan’s his brother. Charity’s amused when Nicola accuses her of trying to steal Jimmy. The Police turn up at Home Farm… will they reveal Mark’s whereabouts? The police pay Faye a visit and Maisie wrestles with her feelings for Ryan.
