Hello and welcome to another edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition
so get scribbling and make us all laugh.
What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out.
EastEnders w/e Friday December 18
Before we marvel about how bad Janine Butcher is this week, remember Vinnie Monks? If you don’t you’re forgiven because the character, played by Bobby Davro, wasn’t exactly the most memorable Albert Square resident. Well, according to The Mirror, Bobby Davro has revealed that he felt the character lacked direction. He said: "I wish it could have been longer.
But the writers didn’t develop him as much as I wanted and I got bored." Davro wasn’t the only one that got bored of Vinnie Monks – we did too. We probably won’t see him back on EastEnders.
This week, a newly-engaged Janine moves some of her belongings into Archie’s house. Max is suffering and Lucy hands Ian a piece of paper with Jane’s current address on it. Ian goes to see Jane but is surprised to find a half-dressed guy living there too. Masood struggles with finances and Whitney heads to court again. Mo’s not happy that Billy’s competing in the mistletoe stakes. Peggy’s furious when Phil tells her that he borrowed money from Ian and put The Vic on the line as security. Lucy announces that Bobby’s gone missing…
Zainab’s unhappy to discover that she’s the oldest mother-to-be at the antenatal classes. The Mitchells decide to raffle Max’s cat off. Sal guesses that Ronnie’s pregnant. Charlie blackmails Mo into directing the nativity. Peggy turns up at Archie’s house to have her say about things. Dotty bribes Mo because she wants to be the Angel Gabriel in the nativity. Peggy gets a big shock.

Hollyoaks w/e Friday December 18
As some of you may know, I’ve been doing the live blog for Strictly Come Dancing and our boy Ricky Whittle has made it to the final! In a shock result, The Bill’s Ali Bastian, also an ex Oaks star, was voted out. If Ricky holds his nerve, and if enough people vote for him, he’ll probably win! OK enough about that. Let’s see what these people have been up to.
Not surprisingly, Ravi’s determined that Anita go to the police and report Dave for spiking her drink. Meanwhile, when Charlotte notices Zoe and Lydia together, her worries for Zoe grow. Whatever it is between Calvin and Mercedes heats up when they’re left alone together in the Loft. Mercedes and Malachy continue to argue over where to spend Christmas (who hasn’t had that argument). Things are looking up for Loretta but with her track record who knows for how long? With money tight, Nancy tells Kris that having a lodger would be the ideal solution.
Loretta’s anxious when Chrissy turns up and starts questioning her about her new life. Rae bunks off school and gets a job in Relish. Ricky and Duncan are determined to cook up a con in their ‘fake’ raffle. Theresa’s feeling low. Rae arrives for her new job in Relish but is furious to discover that Newt also works there. Frustrated with her lack of support, Kris is determined to prove to Nancy that he’s got what it takes to be a student counsellor. Malachy is devastated after walking in on Calvin and Mercedes doing – well, you know what.

Coronation Street w/e Friday December 18
Watch out for a touch of class this week as Nigel Havers joins Corrie (let’s hope they use him better than Stephanie Beacham).
In other news, The Mirror and several tabloids are reporting that Corrie star Ryan Thomas, who plays Jason Grimshaw, was arrested following a bitter row with his former partner Tina O’Brien who played Sarah-Louise Platt. She called the police and he was arrested at 6.45pm on Friday but released eight hours later. Breaking up is never easy. Let’s hope for happier times.
Deirdre’s horrified by a story in the Gazette airing all her family’s dirty linen. Norris can’t believe his luck! Ken and Deirdre have a furious row about it. The police question Carla again. Dev meets up with Bernie. Graeme’s not happy about having his leg in plaster. Norris is forced to apologise to Graeme. Michelle’s suspicious about Carla. Dev’s frustrated about the situation with Sunita. Kevin discovers that Tony’s hitman stole his clients.
Carla’s confession to Michaelle results in… a catfight! Watch the hair girls. Sally surprises Kevin with a romantic break in Paris. However he’s not happy about it. Audrey’s got her eye on a wealthy widower (Nigel Havers!). Gail shows someone around her house. Rosie’s got a new venture. Gail and Joe set a date for their wedding date.

Ben tries to kiss Michelle
Audrey bumps into her old friend Claudia
Tyrone’s not having a good time
Emmerdale w/e Friday December 18
Most actors relish playing the soap bad boy or bitch – they tend to say it’s better than being the good guy. But Siân Reeves has revealed that she gets unwelcome attention in the street because of the behaviour of her Emmerdale character Sally Spode. Speaking to Inside Soap, she said: "People in the street are quite rude to me at times – some viewers have been telling me to leave Ashley and Laurel alone and even calling me a horrible cow." Funnily enough, Vicky Binns said a similar thing a couple of weeks ago. It’s almost disturbing that some people can’t distinguish fiction from reality.
In the show this week, Charity tries to get rid of Cain’s cash. Aaron’s flirting with Holly pays off when she agrees to go out for a drink with him. Later, Holly wonders why Adam’s being so protective. Will he keep a lid on Aaron’s sexuality? Ashley’s feeling immense pressure to deliver on the Christmas festivities. Charity’s grateful when Jai and Nikhil give her a job at the factory. Sam eventually manages to persuade Pollard to consider Olena for a job.
Carl questions Chas about Cain’s cash and Jai’s intrigued when Maisie discusses her single status. Carl’s annoyed to see Charity still hanging around the village. How far will he go to get the money? Lisa’s flattered when the class tutor tells her that she’s a natural. Pollard’s insulted because of the way Terry questions his culinary skills. Sally’s desperate to win Ashley around. Mark and Faye agree to go public after Christmas – ooooh!

Aaron kisses Holly in front of Adam

Lisa’s shocked by Lizzie’s honest admission
