EastEnders’ Max tries to scam Ian

Hello and welcome to another edition of A Slice Of Soap. I’ve had internet woes all day. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in the soaps this week? Let’s find out…

EastEnders w/e Friday December 4
Before we talk about what Max Branning’s up to this week, a word about actor Don Gilet and his character Lucas Johnson. I do feel sorry for him. No doubt he’ll say that playing a bad boy is more interesting than playing a good guy. However, a bit of credibility is still what you want and wish for in a part that’s in a show as high profile as EastEnders. He came into the show as a recovering drug addict and he’s leaving it as a man of the cloth who’s had a hand in two murders. Oh well, at least Denise looked lovely on her wedding day.
More grim reality on Albert Square as Max is still in a predicament; Phil’s demanding the £13,000 he owes. Ian complains that he has no-one to share his hot tub with – oh my lord. I can’t believe anyone would want to share something so intimate with Squeal Beale. Archie hears that Peggy’s in Portugal with Grant (come back Ross Kemp! Please!). Phil suggests that Max rethink their plan to scam Ian. Bianca and Whitney learn that Tony recently tried to commit suicide. Roxy quizzes Ronnie over the identity of her baby’s father, but she soon realises that it’s Owen. Ricky blurts out a big secret.

Liz decides to leave Walford as there’s nothing to stick around for. Ronnie fails to tell Liz that she’s carrying Owen’s baby. Ian struggles to separate a warring Tiffany and Bobby. Whitney is stopped in the Square by a mystery man who hands her a phone containing a text message that reads ‘I can’t stop thinking about you. T x’.

Also on EastEnders this week:
Whitney writes a letter to Tony
Phil’s financial situation worsens
Max turns to Rachel for money

Emmerdale w/e Friday December 4
Who’s watching Gavin & Stacey? I am and I love it. Anyway Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, has apparently said that she wouldn’t mind acting alongside her husband James Thornton (farmer John Brton). It’s Emmerdale’s "gorgeous" Yorkshire location that’s got her drooling. She told PA: "[It] could be quite good fun because James says it’s just gorgeous filming out in the fields." Gorgeous in winter? Maybe. Can I just say that I’m loving all the friction between Charity and Cain? They’ve still got it.

I still can’t believe that Maxwell Caulfield’s leaving Emmerdale. I love his cheesy role of Mark Wylde. Mark’s like a Mills & Boon character come to life, isn’t he? Anway this week, Will suffers a convulsion. Charity tries to speak to Debbie at the garage but will Debbie forgive her? Laurel’s a little perturbed when she discovers that Sally’s picked Gabby up from school. she’s also not pleased to see that Sally’s had Gabby’s hair cut without asking her first. Mark puts things in perspective after Will’s fit but will he choose his family or Faye?

Meanwhile, Laurel isn’t convinced when the fire report comes back. Will Sally finally be found out or will Laurel be driven out of her own home? Elsewhere, Katie’s worried when one of Natasha’s horses goes missing. Sally convinces Ashley that Laurel needs therapy after the fire. Pollard notices that the atmosphere between David and Leyla’s still tense. Can David and Leyla start again?

Also on Emmerdale this week:
Faye and Mark’s little secret is rumbled
Laurel gives Ashley an ultimatum
Scarlett doesn’t want to celebrate her birthday

Coronation Street w/e Friday December 4

I’ve had worries about where the Coronation Street writers are going with storylines for a little while now. I can barely stomach the gross fling Molly’s having with Kevin (and the producers must know that this storyline is not popular). Now I hear that there’s a plan to bring in the ‘Canoe Man’-style insurance scam, according to The Sun. It claims that debt-ridden Joe (Reece Dinsdale) will attempt to fake his own death on a boating holiday, similar to John Darwin’s fake death while canoeing.

SPOILER: don’t read any further if you don’t want to know what happens. But unlike Mr Darwin, Joe will die when his scam goes wrong. A source told The Sun: "It’s a copycat storyline of Darwin’s insurance scam." Show bosses won’t comment. END SPOILER

Rosie’s up to her devious old tricks and accuses John Stape of assault. Molly’s worried that Kevin’s changed his mind about leaving Sally. Ken promises to buy Simon a bike for Christmas but he’s skint. Teresa persuades Lloyd to throw a party at the flat with the theme: vicars and Liz! Becky and Clare have a wild night out. Eddie spots a money-making opportunity: namely Emily’s guttering.

John’s arrested on suspicion of assault. Steve’s not happy when Dev brings his golf coach Bernie into the Rovers. Becky’s alarmed when Michelle tells her that Steve’s had a call from Bernie and confronts Steve. Eileen rumbles Eddie’s guttering scam and decides to play him at his own game (good for you Eileen!). Peter and Leanne arrive at the Wilson’s house and discover that they’re loaded! Peter and Deirdre are suspicious about where Ken’s gone for the day. Freda seeks Norris’s help to win a cash prize in a competition. Meanwhile, Anna tries to talk Gary out of going on his army taster weekend. George offers to lend Peter and Leanne money to open their dream bar.

Also on Coronation Street:
George and Eve visit Simon
Lloyd proposes to Teresa
Steve lies to Becky

Hollyoaks w/e Friday December 4

Well! There’s so much drama happening OFF Strictly Come Dancing this year and the latest bit of news concerns Ricky Whittle. As you all may know by now, he was arrested and eventually bailed with regard to an incident involving a photographer. It was looking a bit touch and go as to whether he’d make Strictly – he did but he didn’t dance as well as he’s able to (understandably). He ended up in the bottom two but luckily for him, ex EastEnder Natalie Cassidy went home instead. Phew! He’s still waving the flag for Hollywoodoaks… just.

This week, it’s the first day of Zoe’s murder trial. A worried Zak, Kris and Nancy wait to offer their support for Zoe. Things are still tense between Jack and Darren. Charlotte offers to support Lydia in court. Cheryl’s planning a Caribbean meal for the Valentines and invites Gilly along. It’s India’s first day of work at The Dog and Josh has made an effort. Charlotte’s tormented by Lydia’s revelation and doesn’t know what to do.

Gilly’s suffering after eating Cheryl’s Caribbean cuisine. Anita’s fed up of being on her own and tries to befriend Theresa. Meanwhile, with the verdict of her trial due, Zoe can only pray for a miracle. Charlotte’s still struggling to deal with her guilt after Lydia’s confession. Theresa’s desperate for the gossip after Anita’s romantic liaison with Ricky. The foreman delivers the verdict in Zoe’s trial…

Zoe’ trial commences
Cheryl chooses Gilly over Calvin
Anita’s furious about Ricky’s lies
