Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition
so get scribbling and make us all laugh.
Hey soapsters, it looks like EastEnders have gone and done it again…I refer to the Walford based show winning the coveted award for best soap, at the Inside Soap Awards. As you may already know, the ceremony took place on Monday at the Sketch in London’s West End and our favourite soap stars were there, dressed to the nines, hoping to be among the winners.
So, who were the winners and losers on Monday night? Well,in addition to taking the best soap award, EastEnders’ Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater) took home the best actress award for the fourth year running. Larry Lamb (Archie Mitchell) was crowned best bad boy, while Charlie Brooks (Janine Butcher) took the gong for best bitch. The best storyline also went to EastEnders for Archie’s torment and Daniella’s death, while John Partridge (Christian Clarke) was handed the gong for sexiest male. Ex ‘Enders actress Kara Tointon (Dawn Swann) topped the best-dressed vote, bringing EastEnders’ tally of gongs to seven.
However, the evening didn’t just belong to the cast of EastEnders; Corrie’s evil Tony ‘JR’ Gordon, played by actor Gray O’Brian, got the best actor gong, which was well deserved. Craig Gazey – who plays Graeme the butcher – got his second soap award of the year, after being voted best newcomer. Maggie Jones, best known to us as Blanche Hunt, bagged the funniest performance title (well done Maggie…Blance really does crack me up!) while the sexiest female award went to Michelle Keegan. Little Alex Bain, who plays Peter Barlow’s son, Simon, also picked up a prize, bringing Corrie’s total number of gongs to five.
Hollyoaks’ only prize of the night was handed to the McQueens for best family, while Emmerdale sadly walked away from the Awards ceremony empty-handed…I suppose there’s always next year!
