Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition
so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s happening in the soaps this week? Let’s find out.
EastEnders w/e Friday September 4
Get ready for a blast from the past as Sam Mitchell, played by Danniella Westbrook, makes her return to Albert Square this week. The last time we saw the character, she was portrayed by actress Kim Medcalf in 2005.
However, the original Sam is gonna be seen on screen for the first time since 2000. I’ve seen the pictures and I must admit, the years haven’t been kind. She looks like mutton dressed as lamb. Naturally, Sam’s return will cause some friction.
Poor Ricky – doesn’t he have a hard enough life as it is without being in the middle of his harpy ex-wives? Part of me can’t help wishing it was Ross Kemp coming back instead. Oh well.
This is also a tragic week for Lucas but it starts with Libby, Chelsea and Patrick preparing to go to Notting Hill carnival. Trina visits but is high as a kite. Meanwhile, there’s tension at the Masood’s as Zainab and Masood argue over the pregnancy. Jean’s stressing about her newfound responsibilities. Bianca’s disappointed that Ricky hasn’t returned home.
Trina and Lucas end up in a smooch (rolls eyes – whatever). Lucas tries to talk to Trina about their kiss but she falls onto a rake which pierces her neck. Panicked, Lucas tries to cover his tracks. Bianca and the kids visit Dot and Jim. Mo questions Charlie about Orlenda. Tiffany wants to arrange a homecoming party for Ricky. Mo follows Orlenda and sees her with another man; she takes photos of them. Charlie confronts Mo about her behaviour. Bianca gets a shock.
Also on EastEnders this week:
Mo’s unhappy about Charlie’s departure
Whitney receives her GCSE results
Bianca admits she’s got feelings for Ricky
Emmerdale w/e Friday September 4
Guys, you know that I like to have a gentle laugh at the Wyldes but I’ve never doubted the acting ability of Amanda Donohoe (Natasha). There’s a reason why she had a very successful career in Hollywood and Emmerdale has given her some opportunities to show off her acting chops. Maxwell Caulfield on the other hand? Well, he’s more or less the same as he ever was in Grease 2 and The Colbys. And for that reason, I almost enjoy watching him more than Amanda Donohoe. Talking of the Wyldes, Nathan’s stunned when Mark admits to having an affair with Faye. Mark’s world is in turmoil as things deteriorate even further.
Meanwhile, David’s happy that Pollard seems to be back to his old self. Jimmy notices that Carl’s completely besotted with Chas – it can only be a matter of time before they give in to their feelings. Katie decides to throw a party for her birthday. Jimmy’s starting to get tired of being ordered around by Nicola. Ashley’s surprised when Sally arrives in the village. Chas tries to sneak out but is caught by Edna, Nicola and Jimmy. A desperate Ryan asks for Cain’s help and he in turn tells Nathan that he needs £5,000 to get rid of the car. Michael has bad news for Debbie. Faye confronts Cain; how will Ryan feel when he discovers that his mother’s put an end to his job at the garage?
Also on Emmerdale this week:
Chas confides in Katie
Rivalry between the two cricket teams continues
Jimmy agrees to be a stay-at-home dad
Coronation Street w/e Friday September 4
Bad news if you value your eyesight and sanity; Kevin and Molly will be getting down and dirty in a hotel as they ccontinue their gross fling. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I saw a couple this bad… apart from Dawn and Phil in EastEnders, that is.
Even Ashley and Clurrrrr aren’t this bad – yes, they’re boring (in my opinion) and for that reason, they’re a great match. But at least they don’t make me want to vomit. Oh well.
Claire’s charity DVT fete starts as a day for the family and ends in drama. Rita breaks the terrible news of Ramsay’s death to Emily. Kevin and Molly head to a hotel room and admit their true feelings for each other (omigod!!!). Ashley decides to come clean about not having the vasectomy. Norris and Rita row over Ramsay. Sally plans a surprise belated dinner party for Kevin’s birthday, but it turns into the night from hell. Becky decides to leave and Peter chats up an attractive woman. Jack’s in a sombre mood as he celebrates Vera’s birthday.
Also on Coronation Street this week:
Jack reveals his plans to move out
Steve continues to search for Slug
Joshua collapses and goes into shock after swallowing a bee
Hollyoaks w/e Friday September 4
I’ve seen some strange soap cameos in my time (don’t forget we’ve got Mayor of London Boris Johnson on EastEnders to look forward to) and I just know there’ll be more. Turns out that 1980s pop star Bonnie Tyler is to make a cameo appearance in Hollyoaks Later. The Total Eclipse Of The Heart singer will turn up in a Carmel McQueen (Gemma Merna) vision and they’ll sing Bonnie’s hit I Need A Hero. How bizarre is that? I can’t wait to see the episode when it airs on October 2.
Back to the goings on in Hollywoodoaks and Ravi has difficulty dealing with his family and friends. Jacqui’s tired and emotional after her unsuccessful trip to find Max. Zoe struggles with her conscience as her Buff TV segment premieres. Theresa’s determined to pursue a career as a glamour model. Ash decides to make a move on Loretta to spite Ravi. Jacqui applies for a loan to track down her son in Italy. Carmel pursues her dream of going back to school. Ash lashes out and punches Ravi who falls to the floor unconscious. The Roys are stunned when the police question Ash about his alleged assault on Ravi.
Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Ravi presses Ash to fix up his next fight
Things are tense between Leila and Elliot
Newt’s not comfortable with Theresa’s career
