Goodbye To Enders’ Dawn and Garry

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s happening in the soaps this week? Let’s find out.

EastEnders w/e Friday August 28

It’s a sad week in EastEnders as we bid farewell to Ricky Groves and Kara Tointon, better known to us as Garry and Dawn.

They’re getting wed but take deep breaths because, as we all know, weddings never go smoothly in soapland.

It’s a shame there’ll be no more of the Garry/Minty (played by Cliff Parisi) bromance and I’m seriously wondering how long Minty will remain in EastEnders without his sidekick.

Ever since Grant Mitchell’s departure (the brilliant Ross Kemp), Steve McFadden’s Phil’s been a bit Billy-no-mates, hasn’t he? He just hasn’t had as good a foil as his bruv.

So we find Dawn admitting to seeing Phil behind Garry’s back after knocking back a couple on her hen night. Meanwhile, Minty and Garry take each other on in the sumo suits. Hey guys, whatever turns you on… Garry punches Phil after realising that Dawn hasn’t been faithful. Zainab’s concerned about the business as Masood discusses their round-the-world trip.

The wedding looks as if it won’t be going ahead but we all know that Dawn, Garry and Summer will sail off into the sunset. Zainab tells a stunned Masoon that she’s pregnant. Minty’s surprised to find Manda on his doorstep with her belongings. And she drops another bombshell; she hoped son Adam could move in with them.

Also on EastEnders this week:
Noah finally returns home
Syd gets a job offer in Canada
Minty and Garry say an emotional goodbye

Emmerdale w/e Friday August 28

Actor James Sutton has been speaking to Mirror.co.uk about his role as Ryan Lamb in Emmerdale. It’s a very good interview and this quote really tickled me: "I am looking forward to a romance with a girl in Emmerdale, as my Hollyoaks character was gay [John Paul McQueen]. I did a lot of kissing boys and got a lot of stubble rash." Hahaha! That’s such a lovely snippet – I love the way he’s so blasé about the real perils of playing a gay character – stubble rash!

On Emmerdale this week, get ready for a romantic reunion. Ashley’s bowled over when his first love turns up. Sally (played by Cutting It’s Sian Reeves) arrives in the village with her husband, Reverend Vincent Spode. Chas tries to convince Aaron to drop the charges against John. Pollard’s determined to find Val and books a flight. Gennie’s upset that Jamie seems to be avoiding her. As the plane prepares for take off, Pollard’s stunned when Val sits next to him and admits that she never left Emmerdale.

Moira tells Zak that Aaron tried to bribe her daughter with sex. Ryan prepares to move to Dubai but Mark begins to have mixed feelings about him leaving. Will’s unconscious after being kicked in the head by a horse but Ryan comes to the rescue – much to Natasha’s chagrin. Laurel and Ashley have invited Vincent and Sally for lunch but there’s an awkward atmosphere. Ashley opens up to Laurel about Sally. The villagers continue to gossip about Chas and Carl.

Also on Emmerdale this week:
Diane’s outraged at Val’s deception
Marlon’s annoyed by Moira’s suggestions about his menu
The new factory owners have bought Holdgate Farm

Coronation Street w/e Friday August 28

If you’re not a big fan of the Platt brat David, it’s probably best to avoid Coronation Street this week as it’s quite David-heavy over the next few days. Then again, he appears to get some kind of payback for his naughty ways so maybe you will want to tune in after all.

Gail takes photos of David’s injuries for the police and Joe’s shocked by the state of David. He swears he had nothing to do with the attack. Tina’s also horrified at David’s injuries and confronts Jason who is later arrested on suspicion of assault. Jesse tells Eileen that he’d like to move in.

The Platt/Grimshaw feud is back on again as Eileen and Gail row on’t cobbles. The real assailant confesses to the attack on David… and it’s not Jason or Joe. Ramsay accompanies Emily to Ernest’s grave; soapsters, I think Emily’s smitten. Ashley and Clurrr still have that vasectomy non-drama of a storyline to play out while David receives a warning from his attacker. Eileen’s becoming fed-up with John and his pickiness. Ramsay shows Norris the flat he’s buying at Victoria Court and suggests that Norris move in with him. Norris is horrified at the idea – of course he is.

He wouldn’t be Norris if he wasn’t. Ashley gives up his most treasured possession – his signed Ricky Hatton boxing gloves – as the prize for the charity fete. Claire’s touched but Ashley’s only doing it because he feels guilty.

Also on Coronation Street this week:
Ramsay leaves for Australia
Joe finds Tina’s charm bracelet
John’s parrot is getting on Eileen’s nerves

Hollyoaks w/e Friday August 28

Actor Glen Wallace has been talking about an upcoming Hollyoaks storyline in which his character Malachy Fisher and Mercedes McQueen will try and have children. "At the minute, we’re looking at how Malachy and Mercedes maintain a ‘normal’ relationship where one partner is HIV positive and the other isn’t and we’re looking into some storylines where the pair of them can have children." That’s one thing about Hollyoaks – it does pride itself on pushing the envelope. Talking of drama, what do you guys think of the Ste/Abi/Daniel/Lucas storyline? The fallout from it continues as Ste takes Lucas back and tells Abi to stay away from him.

Lydia finds her relationship with Sarah increasingly hard work. Darren attempts to sabotage Dom’s new position as chef at The Dog. Darren and Cindy’s twisted relationship becomes strained. Having stolen her father’s caretaker keys, Lauren and Anita break into the school at night in search of their GCSE results. They find Newt and Theresa kissing instead but all four eventually find what they’re looking for.

Frankie and Jack prepare a special dinner to celebrate Newt’s results but he’s upset that his mother doesn’t seem to care. Ravi asks Loretta out on a date and Cindy and Tony get engaged.

Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Zoe secures a job on reality TV show Buff TV
Theresa decides on a new career path
Ricky flirts with Anita
