EastEnders’ Jim Returns Home

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.

EastEnders w/e Friday 21 August

Fans of the soap will know that EastEnders has become famous for its ‘special’ episodes; not so long ago, there was the one featuring the black members of the cast.

Now it’s set to broadcast its first ever all-female three-hander. The episode will see Ronnie (Samantha Womack), Bianca (Patsy Palmer) and Dot (June Brown) opening up to each other during a night in the Vic.

They may seem an unlikely trio, but the women discover they have one thing in common… I’m tempted to say bad judgement at times – but that’s not it; they all have some very big decisions to make. The episode airs on Tuesday. So what else is going on this week? Peggy’s fuming at Archie’s decision to buy the Car Lot. Bianca’s still annoyed that Ricky ‘ruined’ her ‘date’ with Al – like we all couldn’t see that one coming. Dawn’s obsessed with cost-cutting for the wedding.

A nurse from Jim’s care home turns up in the Square; Jim’s coming home. Christian invites Syed over to the flat. It’s A-level results day for Tamwar and Libby. Ronnie opens up to Joel about Danielle. Roxy meets with Dr Al again.

Minty’s surprised to find Garry sleeping on the sofa, but Garry insists that he’s saving himself for the wedding night. Bianca’s confused when Dawn says that Ricky’s away ‘doing a job’ for Phil. Garry handcuffs Minty and Phil together until they discuss the stag night. Meanwhile, Dot’s thrilled that Jim’s back home. Zainab turns up at Christian’s flat, much to Syed’s horror.

Also on EastEnders this week:

Denise and Zainab compete in the celebration stakes
Roxy and Christian have a heated exchange

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 21 August

Bad boy Ash Roy is leaving in September. The scheming entrepreneur, played by Junade Khan, will be ostracised when his mother and father find out that he knowingly put brother Ravi’s (Stephen Uppal) life in danger by letting him fight. I’m not really surprised about that one so I’ll move on…

It’s a bit of a Ste week this week… just so you know. Daniel starts to panic when Ste goes missing with Lucas. Meanwhile, Ste’s worried that Abi may have told Daniel about their kiss. Michaela frets about her love-life while Malachy’s more concerned about his financial situation. Gilly tries to apologise to Steph for the piñata incident, but ends up making things worse. Malachy tries to apologise to Kris for trying to steal the money from his flat. Michaela hounds Zak cos she wants him to pledge his love for her; she thinks matching tattoos would be a good way of doing this.

Josh can’t wait to start his new course in London. Darren persuades Neville to give him the day off work to celebrate his birthday. Steph’s having doubts about her relationship with Fernando. Ste’s distraught to find Daniel has taken Lucas because of their fight. Michaela worries about her exam results. Darren wants to spend his birthday with Cindy, but Tony gets in the way. Sarah and Zoe are worried about Lucas. Ste confronts Abi who’s forced to choose between giving Lucas to Daniel or Ste. The police arrest Daniel for attempted child abduction.

Coronation Street w/e Friday 21 August

Hands up if you expected Becky’s wedding day to go without a hitch? I’m willing to bet that everyone expected something to go wrong. Personally, I think it’s a bit of a stretch when the second wedding’s taking place mere months after the first one – but I don’t write Coronation Street. I just watch it and roll my eyes at some of the things I’m asked to swallow.

Anyway Becky’s released on bail (would it really be so bad if one wedding went smoothly?). Norris is irritated with Ramsay for mixing up the paper deliveries. Lloyd wants some answers from Liz. Tina gives Joe a piece of her mind. Blanche and Norris gossip about Becky and her ‘drug dealing’ while Steve confronts DC Hooch, eventually offering the bent copper a bribe – but will he take it?

Clurrr and Ashley try to drum up interest in the charity fete (I try to drum up interest in their storylines – still not bovvered). Molly and Tyrone arrive back from their holiday and, guilt-ridden over his affair, Kevin suggests a move to Cheshire. Tina shows off the charm bracelet Jason’s bought her. It goes missing and she wrongly assumes David nicked it. Talk of the devil, the Platt brat gets assaulted – who did it? Joe tells Gail he’s moving out.

Amber celebrates getting her grades for university
Jim and Andy leave Weatherfield

Emmerdale w/e Friday 21 August

Hey soapsters, what did you make of the roof top drama on Emmerdale’s real-time episode last week? Gripping stuff wasn’t it? Anyway, as you’re all aware by now, that was Sally Oliver’s final scenes as Lexi… for now at least. We all know that some departing soap stars return years later. Anyway, speaking about her decision to quit, she said: "It was very emotional filming my last scenes due to the nature of the storyline, but also because I knew that I was leaving." What a way to end two years on the soap. But life goes on in the Dales and Moira and Holly are worried about Hannah’s crush on Andy. Paddy isn’t happy when Zak teases him that Carl’s going to make a move on Chas.

Jimmy’s feeling guilty about throwing Carl out and Pollard tells Val that he wants a divorce. Jamie’s jealous when Gennie receives another letter from her boyfriend in Brighton; is he falling for her? Pollard’s desperate to find out who’s behind the new factory. David’s sick of seeing how down Eric is without Val. Aaron agrees to accompany Paddy to the Barton’s – but he’s just eager to see Holly. Diane’s shocked by her sister’s sudden departure. Meanwhile, Viv and Brenda continue to clash. John’s arrested for assault and false imprisonment. Jamie’s upset that Gennie’s fallen for Dominic. Val’s determined to show Pollard and Diane that they can’t live without her.

Also on Emmerdale this week:
Moira learns of Andy’s past
Jake leaves for Spain
Aaron’s furious with John
