Will Corrie’s Becky Make It To The Church?

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.   What’s going on in soapland this week? Let’s find out…

Coronation Street w/e Friday 14 August

Hey guys, it’s a big week for the residents of Coronation Street as Steve and Becky attempt to tie the knot for the second time. Now as we all know, the unwritten rule of soap is that if anything’s gonna go wrong, it’s bound to happen on the day of a wedding, and this wedding’s no exception.

Poor old Becky’s got Slug and Hooch plotting against her… oh, and a certain Jim McDonald will put in an appearance as well. This can only mean one thing: TROUBLE! So, it looks as though all the necessary elements are in place for a soap wedding that we won’t forget in a hurry. Then again, I’ve already forgotten the travesty that was the last one.

Tina’s convinced that David has something to do with Joe’s drug addiction. Gail tells Audrey that she’s not sure if she can deal with Joe’s addiction. Eddie shows Steve his grand design for the wedding cake, but Steve’s unimpressed. Maria drops the bombshell that she’s thinking of moving to Ireland. Rosie threatens to withdraw her investment if Luke doesn’t stop sniffing round Michelle. Maria tells Fiz that she’s in love with Tony… how on earth is that even possible? What are the writers of Coronation Street smoking these days?

Anyway, Tina quizzes Joe and Graeme about the drugs. Becky arranges for Jim to attend the wedding as a surprise for Steve. Ashley’s on a mission to get drunk – unable to face telling Claire the truth about the vasectomy (shall I pretend to care?). It’s the day of Becky and Steve’s second wedding and Becky’s determined nothing’s going to spoil it. Slug and Hooch plot their revenge and Lloyd and Jim lock horns over Liz.

Emmerdale w/e Friday 14 August

Emmerdale’s Nicola De Souza is one of those soap characters that you either love or hate. But whatever you think about her, it looks as though she’s here to stay. Apparently, actress Nicola Wheeler has revealed that she’s keen to stick with the soap for… wait for it… the rest of her life! The 35-year-old confirmed that she’s committed to a long-term future for her character Nicola De Souza as long as producers grant her occasional breaks. Speaking to the Daily Record, she said: "If I get that opportunity, I could be in Emmerdale forever because I love working here." So, it looks like Nicola De Souza’s gonna be with us for years to come… Zimmer frame an’ all.

Back to this week’s action and if you’re not wild about the Wylde’s, you may wish to look away as they’ll be getting their fair share of airtime. Faye’s pleased that Ryan and Nathan are getting on well. Natasha resorts to an underhand method to get Ryan and Faye out of the village. Nicola’s angry that Carl’s evading his marital problems. Meanwhile Lexi’s in denial that anything’s wrong between her and Carl. Ashley’s put out when Bishop Postlethwaite adds to his heavy workload. Marlon’s concerned that Jake seems depressed. Ryan’s stunned when he gets a phone call at the garage offering him the job in Dubai.

Lexi’s annoyed when she discovers Carl went to the hospital to visit Nicola and the baby. Jake scratches a winning £500 scratch card for Lizzie… will he ignore his better judgement and con Lizzie out of her winnings? At the hospital, Lexi tries not to feel envious as Nicola nurses Angelica. Later, however, Nicola and Jimmy are horrified to find Lexi on the roof with their daughter. So will she back down and return the baby or will it result in tragedy? Leyla notices a spark between Katie and Ryan. The Bartons continue to be entertained by Hannah’s obvious crush on Andy; but how will they feel when they discover the details of Andy’s past?

EastEnders w/e Friday 14 August

Spoiler Alert! Hey guys, you’ll never guess who’s gonna fall pregnant? If you’re thinking Ronnie Mitchell, guess again. It’s none other than postmistress-turned-caterer, Zainab Masood! According to reports, Zainab gets the shock of her life when she discovers that she’s with child. Anyway, as you can imagine, the news stuns hubby Masood; he’d planned a round-the-world trip for them both. Zainab makes the shock discovery soon but unlike Heather Trott, at least she knows who the daddy is…

Back to the action on the Square and a mystery man startles Heather at the launderette. Janine continues to flirt with Ryan at Dawn’s engagement party. Whitney thanks Lauren for not blabbing about her and Ryan stealing Max’s car. Mo sets up a tarot tent in the Square. Brenda’s annoyed by Mo’s ongoing interference.

Janine and Bianca come to blows at Dawn’s party. Mo follows Charlie to the summer house and is stunned by what she sees. Bianca learns that Janine signed her up to the speed dating and Ricky challenges her as to who can score the most dates – of course he does. He’s never really grown up, has he?

Dot’s pleased to announce to Bradley that she’s found a new lodger. Ryan phones the café pretending to be a food critic. Brenda decides to end things with Charlie. Oh dear. Is that man doomed to never find a woman to love him? Elsewhere, Ryan lets a cockroach loose in the café and later steals all the money (I saw that very same scam in a movie once). Ryan tells Whitney that he knows what happened with Tony. Meanwhile, Ricky prepares for his date with Roxy.

Hollyoaks w/e Friday 14 August

Hey soapsters, if you wanna get in shape for what’s left of summer, try the Hollywoodoaks weight loss system. Wanna know what that is? Well, according to Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe, it’s got nothing to do with food. She said that she never worries about dieting and claims that her trim figure is a result of exercise rather than denying herself food. Bang Showbiz quotes her as saying: "I don’t worry about what I eat but I do one weights programme a week and two cardio sessions." Her co-star Zoe Lister, who plays Zoe Carpenter, added: "It’s all about balance – if I want pizza, I’ll have it but then I’ll have salad the next day! Now this is a diet I can stick to; I’m off to order a pizza, but here’s what you can expect on the show this week…

Leila’s shocked when she receives a message from Elliot’s dad telling her he’s in town. Tony’s not in the best of moods after breaking up with Cindy. Steph’s given food for thought when Cindy tells her that she needs some passion in her life. Leila’s thrilled that she made £200 at the art sale, but Elliot’s in no mood for celebrating with her. Ste turns up late for work again and Tony fires him. Steph’s agreed to cook paella for Fernando but can’t find any ingredients in Drive ‘n’ Buy (what, no rice?). Elliot’s coming round to the idea of having Gareth in his life.

Abi’s becoming closer to Lucas each day and Daniel’s beginning to worry. Steph’s feeling foolish about the way she treated Fernando. Elliot prepares for the science awards. Ste struggles to cope with Lucas while Abi gets closer to them both. Gilly competes for Steph’s attentions by volunteering for a variety of D.I.Y. tasks. Leila resolves to make a decision on whether to tell Elliot about Gareth’s lies. Gilly becomes increasingly jealous of Steph and Fernando.
