Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in soapland this week? Let’s find out…
Emmerdale w/e Friday August 7
Hey soapsters, next month Emmerdale will air a real-time episode revolving around a rooftop baby kidnap plot. The episode, which is due to transmit on Thursday August 13, will feature only five characters and focuses on the events following Lexi King’s decision to run to the hospital roof with Nicola and Jimmy’s newborn baby girl Angelica.
The devastated new parents will watch with Scarlett as Carl attempts to coax her away from the roof’s edge. However, with Carl refusing to admit his true feelings for his wife and Lexi having suffered an ectopic pregnancy only weeks beforehand, her mind’s in a dark place and she struggles to hold herself together. So, will the depths of desperation cause her to jump? Well, we’ll have to wait until next week to find out, but the build to the drama starts this week…
Nicola’s worried when she notices Carl isn’t sharing Lexi’s enthusiasm for the IVF. Lexi accidentally causes Nicola to lose her footing and fall downstairs. Will Nicola and the baby be okay? Will Lexi be forgiven if they’re not? Meanwhile, Lily’s giving away her worldly possessions, ready to hit the road…Will Edna let her sister go without saying goodbye? It’s a shame that we’ll be saying farewell to Neighbours star Anne Charleston. I’ve loved seeing her in Emmerdale – it’s been really surreal.
Elsewhere, Betty speculates that Val’s had an affair, while Diane’s finding it increasingly difficult to work with her sister. Meanwhile at the hospital, Carl, Rodney and Lexi wait for news about Nicola and it’s clear that Carl blames her. Will he confront his true feelings for Lexi? Sick of being caught up in the crossfire between Brenda and Viv, Gennie takes up Leyla’s offer of a spare room at Katie’s house.
Brenda continues to hide her loan repayment letters from Terry. Val realises the extent of her wrongdoing when she compiles a list of everything she’s ever done to upset people. Bob tries to keep the peace as tensions rise between Viv and Brenda. At the B&B, Val’s preening herself in a bid to win Pollard back and Brenda’s determined to sort Viv out once and for all. Nathan tells Natasha that Faye and Ryan have moved into the village and Ryan arrives home to find Mark talking to his mother…Will Nathan discover Mark’s secret?

Hollyoaks star Emma Rigby has vowed to concentrate on "serious" roles after she bows out of the soap in December. The 19-year-old actress recently confirmed that she plans to leave her part as Hannah Ashworth in order to pursue new projects. Discussing her future plans in an interview with The Sun, she said: "I am seriously nervous about leaving a stable job like Hollyoaks, especially in the current climate of the time. I want to get into some more serious stuff when I get out – theatre, films and drama." Emma Rigby also ruled out the possibility of following in the footsteps of Gemma Atkinson, who has focused on glamour modelling since leaving Hollyoaks in 2006.
