Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in soapland this week? Let’s find out…
Coronation Street w/e Friday July 3
Corrie has unveiled its newest cast member – Logan Blake Pearson, who will be playing Maria’s baby son. That should give you a clue as to the welfare of Maria’s baby, no matter how dramatic the writers try and paint the birth. Talking about dramatic, Molly and Kevin are in denial about the affair they’ve started and they’re not the only ones. I’m still not convinced about this storyline. To be honest, it’s really hard on my stomach. I just don’t understand why Molly would do this.
Evil Tony ‘JR’ Gordon finds himself in the unenviable position of being alone on a beach, in the middle of nowhere, tasked with the job of delivering Maria’s baby. Really far fetched, but at least Tony can add midwife to his CV as well as murderer.
Also this week, Kevin’s furious as Rosie takes delivery of a new sports car. Meanwhile, Luke applies pressure on her to invest in Underworld. Audrey and Natasha gossip about Maria’s relationship with Tony. Tina joins Jason for a celebratory drink. Jesse invites Eileen back to his parents’ empty house. Maria’s fed up of waiting for the baby to arrive and decides to take matters into her own hands. The factory girls are stunned when Rosie announces that she’s bought a share of the business. Lloyd’s fed up as he still can’t get in touch with Liz. Steve promises to make more of an effort with Slug. Maria finally goes into labour.

Emmerdale w/e Friday July 3
Well, well, well. Emmerdale’s Emma Atkins has admitted that she’s coming back as superbitch Charity Tate because she flopped after leaving the soap four years ago. She struggled to find roles and failed to realise her dreams of making it big in the US. Never mind Emma, America’s loss is Emmerdale’s gain. I suppose this goes to show that the grass isn’t always greener. Apparently she’ll make her dramatic comeback with five-year-old son Noah in tow, much to the shock of the local villagers. I can’t wait! But this week, it’s all about Andy. Diane and Katie are frantic with worry about him. Lexi’s overjoyed at being pregnant and goes on a baby shopping binge. She announces that someone at the factory will be laid off and later collapses. Paddy tells Marlon that he’s thinking of asking Chas to marry him.
Over at Home Farm, Mark and Natasha maintain their peaceful façade in front of the children. Maisie and Nathan book a hotel break for their parents and Natasha agrees to go as long as they have separate beds. Mark gets a call from a frantic Faye. Paddy and Aaron have a bout of fisticuffs, but then make up. Gennie’s invited out via an internet dating site. Jamie helps her write a reply accepting. Brenda, meanwhile is unaware of her daughter’s foray into cyberspace and worries that Gennie has no life.

EastEnders w/e Friday July 3
So what did you make of EastEnders’ reference to Michael Jackson’s death? I’m not sure they got it right, but that’s just my opinion. The writers penned it almost as an aside with Denise asking Patrick: " ‘Ere ‘eard about Michael Jackson?" before giving him his birthday cards and going on to talk about something else. Considering it was the talk of the town, it should’ve been the talk of the Square and as it wasn’t. So why bother? They should have just left it out. Anyway this week, Lucas tries to apologise to Denise while Trina does her best to annoy everyone. Garry’s bought Dawn some Take That tickets for her birthday. Minty thinks Manda’s going off him. Roxy asks Jack to sort out Ronnie’s clothes. Pat warns Amira about Janine.
It’s the day of Minty and Heather’s annulment. Shirley attempts to cheer Heather up at Dawn’s party, but Heather ends up feeling worse. She makes a drastic decision about her pregnancy. Roxy decides to spice up Dawn’s party by inviting a few upstairs in The Vic to play spin the bottle. Jack puts an inebriated Roxy to bed and she tells him that she loves him. Bradley tells Syd that he wants to move in with her. It’s the day of the grand reopening of the café and Ian’s dressed up as Willy Wonka. A green-eyed Syed looks on as someone catches Christian’s eye. Minty’s on a mission to shape up for Manda. Minty and Garry spot Phil with Manda. Roxy’s embarrassed to hear that she told Jack that she loved him.

Hollyoaks w/e Friday July 3
Hey guys, did any of you spot Big Brother housemate Rodrigo Lopes’ cameo appearance last Friday? If you blinked, you probably would have missed it. The half-Italian, half-Brazilian student filmed a really brief appearance earlier this year, prior to entering the Big Brother house. During his extremely short scene, Rodrigo, 23, was in full graduation gear as he received his degree certificate along with Zak (Kent Riley), Elliot (Garnon Davies) and Kris (Gerard McCarthy). So, Rodrigo Lopes is now a member of an elite group of BB housemates who’ve appeared in Hollyoaks (remember Big Brother 8 winner Brian Belo’s cameo?). I wonder who’ll be next? On to this week and Rhys is refusing to forgive Josh for wrecking their hopes of hitting the big time with ‘The Somethings’ and also, his chances with Hayley. Theresa and Newt are struggling to keep their relationship under wraps.
The youngsters go camping and spook each other by telling ghost stories. Ricky introduces the gang to Wade but not everyone takes to him. Soon jealousies start to tear the group apart. Hannah’s still pining for Justin and her behaviour is far from normal. Nancy is also on the rebound after Russ; Lydia tells her she may have lesbian tendencies. Zak spots a loved-up Hayley and Rhys snogging each other’s faces off. Michaela’s not happy about her date being ruined by Hayley. Newt’s still in the doghouse with Jack over his secret camping trip. Elsewhere it’s the day of Warren’s funeral and Sasha’s struggling to keep it together. Mercedes is looking after her man, while Michaela is keeping hers on a tight leash. Newt’s torn between the two women in his life.
Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Michaela browbeats Zak into attending Warren’s funeral
Hannah bumps into a bad boy rocker called Stav
