Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter the caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.
Hey guys, don’t you just love it when pop stars unexpectedly turn up in your favourite soaps? We’ve had Boyzone star Keith Duffy playing barman Ciaran McCarthy in Coronation Street. And then there’s former Hear’Say singer Kym Marsh (who’s probably wishing she was the one to crack America, and not Myleene Klass) as the role of demanding barmaid Michelle Connor.
However, it looks as though we’re gonna have to wait a while before we can add Sarah Harding to that list.
Rumours that she’s lined up to appear in Hollyoaks seem to have fallen at the first hurdle. In case you hadn’t heard, apparently the Daily Star reported that the Hollyoaks producers were launching a campaign to get Sarah Harding to take a starring role in the soap, either as herself in a cheeky cameo or in a role specially created for her.
However a Hollyoaks spokesperson recently said: "It’s absolutely not true, we have not been in any talks with her at all." The spokesperson added: "If Sarah did want to make an appearance we wouldn’t rule anything out for the future." A real shame because the Girls Aloud star will be making her acting debut in BBC2 drama Freefall – so she can act (possibly). What’s more, she’s a self-confessed Hollyoaks fan. The 27-year-old singer recently said: "I’ve got loads of hangover cures – bananas, milkshakes, tea and I like a mean fry up. But I love Hollyoaks on a hangover."
Anyway, despite all that’s being said, I’m still living in hope that one day we’ll see Sarah Harding in Hollyoaks… Come to think of it, there are a few members of Girls Aloud who I can see making a seamless move into our favourite soaps. Take Cheryl Cole for instance… like her band mate Sarah Harding, she’d be right at home in Hollyoaks, cos as we all know, the unwritten rule is that only the beautiful need apply. Mrs Cole could play the role of a long-suffering wife of a love cheat; we all know Cheryl wouldn’t need acting lessons for that.
And then there’s Nicola; the ginger member of the group. Well, she could play the long lost sibling of Coronation Street’s Chesney and Fiz; at least that way we’ll see more of her than we usually do in the Girls Aloud videos.
Anyway, I’m off to put these ideas to the producers of Corrie and Hollywoodoaks but I’ll be back on Friday for more soap news and the results of our caption competition. So, which pop star would you like to see in your favourite soap? Share your thoughts with us.
