Enders’ Billy Tells Jay The Shocking Truth

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter the caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh. What’s going on in soapland this week? Let’s find out…

EastEnders w/e Friday May 22

It’s a big week for Billy Mitchell but before we go on to that, a word in your shell-like. EastEnders bosses have denied reports in The People that Perry Fenwick, the actor that plays hapless Billy, will be axed from the soap. Apparently, there are no plans for unlucky Billy to be axed. And Perry Fenwick’s not quitting either. Nice try, The People but your sources got it wrong this time… I think. So back to the action and Nick and Dotty are still trying to drive poor old Dot mad.

What’s more, he continues to blackmail Billy. Bradley’s annoyed with Stacey for telling Syd about his ear fetish. Libby’s convinced that Al’s a sleaze.

Billy’s lie results in Shirley losing her job over missing cash. Bradley discovers why Syd’s been acting strangely. Heather’s concerned about Yolande and Patrick’s divorce finally comes through. Stacey and Mo get a deal going on some dodgy designer gear. Jay’s edgy ahead of the trial for his father’s murder and Billy starts drinking. Phil kicks Shirley out of the bar.

Billy’s forced to steal £100 from Phil to pay Nick but he’s caught red-handed. Phil and Nick get into a fight. Determined to prove his worth as a Mitchell, Billy tells a stunned Jay the truth about standing by while Terry and his gang killed his Jase. Jay tells Dawn what he’s learned and they comfort each other. Billy tries to confront Nick and Jean’s worried because Stacey’s missing.

Emmerdale w/e Friday May 22

The recession continues to hit our favourite soaps. Emmerdale’s John Middleton (vicar Ashley Thomas), who’s been in the soap for an incredible 13 years, recently said: "I am contracted until the end of the year and that’s all. In the past you automatically expected a contract to be renewed but it’s not like that any more." So any fans out there still struggling to take to the Wyldes (or the Woodentops, as I like to call them), consider this: as Maxwell Caulfield and Amanda Donohoe are probably being paid very well to appear in Emmerdale, cuts may well claim them in the not-too-distant future… On to the soap itself and Nicola still refuses to tell Jimmy that she’s pregnant. Cain decides to reveal Andy’s history of violence to CAFCASS. David is the laughing stock of the village following his vocal gymnastics. Andy faces-off with Cain.

Maisie can’t take living with Sandy at the Woolpack and returns home. Natasha and Mark are appalled by Maisie’s attraction to Cain – it looks like she wants a bit of rough. Potentially, this could turn into an interesting storyline. Will Maisie teach Cain how to use a salad fork and wear a cravat? Mark asks Natasha if they can renew their wedding vows and she agrees. Mick goes cap in hand to Andy for money, insisting he’s skint. He’s months behind with his rent and in danger of being evicted. Pollard is dashed to the hospital. He is taken for an ECG scan and Val is told he’s had a suspected minor heart attack.

Coronation Street w/e Friday May 22

So. Was anyone shaken and stirred by Fawlty Towers’ Andrew Sachs’ appearance in Corrie? I found it quite muted and understated. It’s not Andrew Sachs fault though – this one firmly belongs to the writers. How is it that they were able to blend Peter Kay in brilliantly but screw up the likes of Norman Wisdom, Stephanie Beacham and, potentially, Andrew Sachs? Oh well. On with the show and it’s all about the Grimshaws this week.

Paula reports Colin to the police. Ramsay (Andrew Sachs) tells Emily that he wants to mend his relationship with Norris before he leaves for Australia. Fiz heads down to the hospital to enquire about John. Spotted by Julie, she doesn’t give anything away. Tony helps Maria put up a cot. Luke and Peter continue to fight over Michelle.

Colin makes a sad exit from Coronation Street. Rita gets the shocking news and battles her emotions. Julie blames Paula for what’s happened and Eileen isn’t sure how she should feel. Natasha’s hurt when she finds out Tony lied to her. Ryan convinces Michelle to go away. It’s the day of the funeral and Eileen speaks about her childhood memories. Michelle tells Peter and Luke that she’s going on tour with the band for six months.

Hollyoaks w/e Friday May 22

Stars from Hollywoodoaks and Corrie glammed up for a Charity Ball in Chester. Proceeds went to the Imagine Appeal. As you’d expect, the celebs (including Zoe Lister, Jenny Metcalfe, Gemma Merna and Chris Fountain) wore designer outfits and showed off their bling. But it was Corrie’s Kym Marsh, on the arm of partner and Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, who stole the show. And all because of her recent boob job. The former Hear’Say singer went all coy and covered up her new 32D-ers. Nice to see them all out and about – we’ve really got to enjoy Chris while we still can. To the show itself and Gov offers his support to Anita after hearing about Lauren’s prank. Zak thinks Zoe’s making a blue movie; she finally cracks and admits the truth.

Dom’s still angry about Tony’s intervention in his love life. Mike and Ste have a run-in over Lucas’ welfare. Tony’s son Harry arrives. A livid Sarah spots Ste drinking a pint while having a picnic with Leah and Lucas. Abi pleads with Mike to give Ste another chance, explaining that she once had a child that died. Zoe gets Zak’s concern all wrong and tries to kiss him. Shocked, he tells her that he’s happy with Michaela. Russ is still angry and frustrated with Jacqui as she continues to refuse access to see Max. Gov accuses Lauren of being the exam paper thief so Anita’s forced to come clean. Tony’s plan to help Dominic win Loretta backfires. Zoe accidentally tells Michaela that she kissed Zak. Harry’s metal detector findings includes a hand grenade. When Tony spreads himself over it, expecting it to go off, it finally makes him a hero in his son’s eyes. Nancy’s struggling to cope with her emotions.

Ste gets some extra shifts in Il Gnosh to earn some extra cash

Hankies out for the soaps girls! Poor Norris, Rita, Eileen, Jay, Jean, Dot & co…or maybe you\’re too busy wishing Honey would come & whisk Billy off & put him in with their other kids to grow a spine in somewhere nice & soft, instead of metaphorically shoving his head down the pan every time he tries to make a go of acting like a man – Shirley\’s twice the \’man\’ he\’ll ever be!!
