Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter this week’s caption competition so get scribbling and make us all laugh.
EastEnders is all go at the moment. In our preview, Archie’s making an honest woman of Peggy (can she make an honest man of him though? That’s the question) and Kara Tointon will be leaving this summer – alongside Ricky Groves who plays her on-screen lover Garry Hobbs. What it means is that the self-confessed Strictly fan can finally join other Enders stars and put on her dancing shoes.
According to The Sun newspaper, she’s apparently in talks to appear in the next series of Strictly Come Dancing. Kara – who plays Dawn Swann – has already appeared in a charity special of the BBC1 talent show last year and won, but she’s been banned from taking part properly for the past three years as it’s disrupted filming when other EastEnders cast members have appeared on the show.
A Strictly insider confirmed that show bosses have been in talks to sign Kara up for the new series, due to begin in September. The source told The Sun: "Kara has made it no secret that she has wanted to do Strictly for years. Hopefully we can make it happen. She’s exactly the kind of contestant that we want on the show."
What, a soap star? No shortage of those. Especially people from Albert Square. Last year alone Phil ‘Parklife!’ Daniels flopped (Kevin Wicks) as did Jessie Wallace (Kat Slater) and Gillian Taylforth. Kara won last year’s Strictly special for Sports Relief by dancing a samba. She was partnered with ex-England cricketer Mark Ramprakash, who won Strictly in 2006.
That’s it for me, I’m out of here. Join me on Friday for more soap news and gossip and the results of last week’s caption competition. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me.
