Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor’s Corrie Stint

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter the Caption Competition so get scribbling.   What’s going on in soapland this week? Let’s find out…

Coronation Street w/e 6th February

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. When you watch February 2nd’s edition of Corrie, you will see darts supremo Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor. He’ll appear on the Street courtesy of a darts match between Rovers regulars and a team from the Flying Horse. Phil is taking on the role of Disco Dave – a talented member of the Flying Horse team who compete against Rovers’ Kirk, Ashley, Kevin, Bill Webster and Eddie Windass. Corrie fan Phil landed the part after chatting with members of the cast. He said: "It’s an honour to be given the opportunity to play this part in Coronation Street. Me, my wife and my mum, in fact my whole family are huge Corrie fans and I’ve always fancied a game of darts in the Rovers – particularly against Kevin Webster."

So this week, after her little visit to Jed Stone, Carla’s dreading Tony’s return from his business trip. Len’s gloating about ‘Damien’ David’s injuries and Janice, of all people, is thinking about training as a nurse. That’s one hospital I’d never go to…Rosie’s teasing Sophie about her crush on Ben. Ken and Martha’s friendship blossoms as they share their love of language, but he still hasn’t told her he’s married. Not sure I’m feeling this particular storyline.

I mean it’s hardly Ken-Deirdre-Mike, is it? Also, it requires a great deal of suspension of disbelief But worst of all, I really wonder how interested people are in Ken’s libido in the first place? Tony puts on a great act with Carla, denying any involvement in Jed’s injuries. Ken opens up to Ted about his friendship with Martha. At the Rovers, the Flight Fandangos have arrived for their tournament with Kirk’s team. Elsewhere, Carla’s a woman on a mission – she needs to know exactly what Tony’s done and if he was responsible for Liam’s death. Will Tony finally confess? Steve and Lloyd chat and realise that they can’t let a woman ruin their friendship – even if that woman is Steve’s mum. Colin, Eileen’s dad, is getting on with Rita like a house on fire. He also seems to be impressing the other ladies on’t Street – much to Eileen’s annoyance.

Also on Coronation Street this week:
Vicki gets a shocking call
Steve and Lloyd prepare for the singles night
Gail goes for a drive with Anna Windass

EastEnders w/e February 6

Joe Swash has confirmed that he’s hoping to return to EastEnders in the future. The actor, who triumphed on ITV1’s I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! revealed that he’s keen to reprise his role as Albert Square’s Mickey Miller. He Swash told Wales’s Evening Post newspaper: "I’d be over the moon to go back to EastEnders one day. If the time was right for me and for the BBC, I’d be more than happy to go back." Who’d love to see Joe Swash back on the set of Albert Square again? Yeah, go on then; I’m missing him and his sidekick Gus Smith (our hero!). I mean, who needs Grant Mitchell and everyone’s fave Sharon? Mickey Miller and Gus Smith were characters that really held the show together and things haven’t been the same since they left….yeah, right! And Todd Carty’s gonna be representing the UK in Ice Skating at the Winter Olympics.

EastEnders is a bit dull at the moment and could do with livening up. Come on writers, sharpen your pencils! Darren has his eye on a business opportunity at the car lot, but he’s not the only one. Food and cross words fly as Peggy has a surprise for Archie while Ronnie’s in a quandary as Danielle’s final appointment nears. Bradley is determined to get Gumbo off his hands. Ronnie reassures Danielle that she’ll be at her appointment to support her. Meanwhile, Janine tries to encourage Darren to come and work for her, but he’s just not interested. Ian’s suspicious of Linda’s condition and intends to catch her out. Darren’s financial troubles drive him to desperate measures.

Ricky will go to any lengths to give Tiffany the birthday she wants. Linda and her husband Roger share words. Danielle and Ronnie face the abortion clinic together. Bradley’s devastated when he realises Gumbo’s missing, but the dog’s return may have a positive outcome. Danielle’s determined to tell Ronnie the truth once and for all (hurry up!!!), but Ronnie appears to have come to a decision of her own. Whitney can’t bring herself to attend Tiffany’s birthday party and Bianca makes a shocking confession. Heather’s heartbroken when she overhears Minty describing her in a less than flattering manner. Oh no! We love Heather!

Also on EastEnders this week:
Zainab and Jane vie for kitchen space
Whitney receives some terrible news
Christian is desperate for his mother to stay

Emmerdale w/e February 6

On Emmerdale this week, Lexi Nicholls will grab the bull by the horns and propose to Carl King. Actress Sally Oliver, who plays Lexi, has recently said she thinks that all Emmmerdale’s King brothers are jinxed as Carl’s brother Mathew died on his wedding day. Apparently she doesn’t rate Carl’s chances either and she’s probably right cos, as we all know, soap weddings rarely go without a hitch. I bet the scriptwriters are probably hard at work busy planning Carl’s untimely death…maybe he’ll spontaneously combust.

Carl puts more pressure on Chas to get his money, but she threatens to tell Lexi about their kiss. Diane grows concerned when Lisa tells her that Andy hasn’t visited Sarah. She warns Andy that he must pull himself together. Marlon confides in Paddy that he slept with Chas. Speak of the devil, she’s left stunned when Paddy admits his feelings for her. With a wealth of other problems on her mind, Chas can’t respond and leaves. Bob complains to Gennie that Brenda’s neediness is driving him up the wall; Leyla offers to give her a massage to ease the tension. A drunk Brenda tries to kiss Doug but he pulls away; will Brenda forsake Terry for Doug? Elsewhere, Zak begins to integrate Aaron into the family by arranging a shift at Debbie’s garage despite Lisa’s reservations.

Leyla eagerly looks forward to attending the gig with David and it seems that romance is in the air. Meanwhile, Nicola and Jimmy find each other to be pleasant company as they share a drink in the Woolpack. Elsewhere, Skin charms Lily and Pearl but when they leave for the factory, he breaks in. Diane breaks the news to the Sugdens about Jack Sugden’s death… Nicola’s alarmed to wake up next to Jimmy.

Also on Emmerdale:
Lexi proposes to Carl
Andy tells Diane he wants to quit the farm
Brenda is left looking literally red-faced

Hollyoaks w/e February 6
Hollyoaks newcomer Melissa Walton will send pulses racing when she turns up in Chester this week. However the 18-year-old blonde bombshell insists there’s more to her character than meets the eye stating that Loretta (who also happens to be a stripper, that’s for the benefit of anyone that didn’t watch Hollyoaks Later) is no dumb blonde. "She’s a really lovely girl, very independent, down to earth and no one can really tell her what she should and shouldn’t be doing – she’s in control of her own life." She is now, but there’s a long way to go in soapland and anything could happen. It will be interesting to see how the character develops.

Also this week, Amy and Josh prepare for their first antenatal class, but their excitement turns sour when Ste shows up. Sarah calls to see Mike on the pretext of collecting college books in the hope that he’ll speak to her. Archie manages to wind Zoe up over her lesbian encounter with Sarah, and Zoe rises to his bait. Warren continues his battle to get Spencer ready. Rhys bemoans to Josh that they never hang out together anymore, so in an attempt to include him, Josh invites him to Leah’s birthday party.

Amy confronts Ste and is aghast to hear that Pauline still thinks Leah’s his daughter. Zoe’s not happy when she discovers that Mike and Sarah are both attending the same lecture as her. Warren’s caught up in a dodgy deal and receives a phone call asking him to get hold of a specific car – with no questions asked. Ste calls in at Gnosh to ask Dom for his job back. Kris receives a text from Ravi. Warren’s anxious when Sasha fails to show to look after Spencer. He decides to head over to the Valentines’ to see what’s going on. Guilty for her liaison with Kris yesterday, Nancy overcompensates with Ravi. She then admits to Sarah that she’s had another fling with Kris again. Tut, tut!

Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Ravi finds himself alone and in charge of the Loft
Ste is up to mischief when he sends Loretta a text from Dom
Life at Nancy’s flat is becoming more and more chaotic
