Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. I suppose, like me, you were all glued to the box on Monday night as Coronation Street’s Maria attempted to finish off evil businessman Tony ‘JR’ Gordon by driving her car at him at top speed. Of course, Tony – having nine lives – survives (where is Lewis Hamilton when you need him most, eh?).
Anyway, if the residents of The Street thought that Maria was losing her marbles prior to this latest mishap, what will they think of her now? Yes, it seems like Tony ‘JR’ Gordon’s definitely winning the psychological battle and things will only get worse when Jed Stone turns up in The Rovers, putting an end to Maria’s theory that the dastardly one had something to do with the pensioner’s disappearance. Now the question we’re all dying to know is: when will Tony ‘JR’ Gordon finally get what’s coming to him? A good question because if there’s one thing scriptwriters of soaps are good at, it’s dragging out storylines.
Remember the painful babyswapping saga in Corrie? They dragged it out so long, I seriously thought I’d qualify for a freedom bus pass before they finally dropped it. No doubt that came after someone finally realised that Emily Bishop’s love life was more exciting than Michelle implausibly finding out that the hospital had…I can’t be bothered to go into again. You know what I mean. But here on A Slice Of Soap, we’re not like that, so for those of you that want to know how Carla discovers the truth about the schemer she’s married to, I thought I’d put you out of your misery. It’s a little bit of a soap spoiler revealing how everything plays out between the couple. If you don’t want to find out, then stop reading now.
Here we go…Carla, after paying Jed Stone a visit at his home in Wigan, finally puts the evidence together and realises that Tony arranged Liam’s murder out of jealousy when he learned of their affair. She goes to the deserted Underworld factory to confront Tony and manages to goad him into making a confession. Actress Alison King told the TV Times: "As she walks into Underworld, Tony locks that door and Carla is nervous, but she demands answers. She goads Tony about Liam being the love of her life. He finally crumbles and comes clean, telling her he killed Liam because he didn’t want to lose her. She’s in shock and doesn’t think she’ll get out alive." There’s more. Read on…if not, wait until next week Friday cos that will be Alison King’s last appearance on Corrie before going on maternity leave…Tony’s so desperate for her to stay that he even throws himself across the bonnet of her car as she drives away. He’s devastated that he’s lost everything and he did it all for nothing. The wheels of soap justice are finally beginning to turn against Tony ‘JR’ Gordon.
