Corrie’s Carla Smells A Rat

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. There’s still time to enter the Caption Competition so get scribbling.   What’s going on in soapland this week? Let’s find out…

Coronation Street w/e January 30

It’s a big week in Corrie as Brit-born Hollywood star Stephanie Beacham makes her appearance and Ken’s libido gets going again. Ewww! But also, it looks like Carla’s finally beginning to twig that Tony ‘JR’ Gordon isn’t quite the perfect husband that he’s making himself out to be.  In the build up to what will be Alison King’s final scenes on Corrie before going on maternity leave next month, Carla pays pensioner Jed Stone a visit in Wigan, determined to find out the truth about Tony.

Maria can’t get anyone to believe her allegations about Tony. Sally and Kevin do their best to reassure Sophie that she’s loved. Ken arrives back from Portsmouth without Peter. Eileen’s amused when she spots Gail and Anna rowing in the street. Gary tells Tina that ‘Damien’ David tried to frame him for the robbery. Ken finds a good Samaritan in the form of the charming Martha Fraser (I’m rolling my eyes!). The police question Tony about Maria running him down, suggesting that she may have been trying to kill him. Elsewhere ‘Damien’ David congratulates himself after managing to ruin Gary’s date with Street minx Rosie Webster. Janice gets the shock of her life when she sneaks out of the hospital for a fag with her new mate Mike. Carla pays Jed a visit in Wigan…

EastEnders w/e January 30

Shane Richie has said that he wouldn’t rule out a return to EastEnders…he must’ve seen his performance in the new version of classic show Minder. The critics aren’t exactly raving about it. Anyway, he revealed that if the circumstances were right, he’d consider reprising his role as Alfie Moon. When did he stop playing Alfie Moon? If you see the new Minder, you’ll know what I mean. But still, it would be great if he returned to Albert Square (alonside Jessie Wallace, of course) because Enders definitely needs a bit of life injected into it at the moment, doesn’t it? It’s in one of its stale periods again. Or at least, that’s what I think. If you want to see Shane Richie starring in Minder as Arthur…sorry… I mean ‘Archie Daley ‘, the show will be screened on Five next month.

Back to EastEnders and Janine’s determined not to settle for anything but the top job at R&R. Billy’s desperate to keep a job, but equally desperate to see his children. Jay’s feelings for Marissa are starting to show. Denise’s thoughts turn to the family’s impending move – where will they go? Jane and Denise are  shocked to find a drunken Linda kissing Patrick. Lucas surprises Denise with his new job at the chippy. Phil becomes an unlikely landlord. Janine thinks that she’s sealed the deal for R&R, but will it all go up in smoke? Denise risks missing her surprise birthday party, when she goes to Birmingham to talk to  Yolande about Patrick. Zainab’s outraged when Masood asks her to pose for some new advertising images – shouldn’t we be the outraged ones? Meanwhile, the stranger who’s been asking for Patrick  might not be quite what he seems…Jack and Janine continue their game of cat and mouse, finally reaching a compromise. Elsewhere Ben falls in love with Gumbo and – strangely –  so does Phil.

Also on EastEnders this week:
Jay plans to run away with Marissa
Bradley finds a new friend
Patrick’s finding it difficult to move on

Emmerdale w/e January 30

This week, Emmerdale says goodbye to long-serving actress Verity Rushworth (Donna Dingle) who’s leaving the soap and heading to London’s West End. Talking about her reasons for leaving, she said: "I started in Emmerdale when I was 12 and have loved every minute of it. But in recent years I’ve wanted to take a break and work in the theatre." Verity, whose final Emmerdale episode airs on January 30, will be joining the cast of Hairspray to play Penny Pingleton at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre…we wish her every success. On with the show and Laurel begs Jasmine and Debbie to turn themselves in, but Debbie tells Jasmine that they have no option but to do a runner. Paul schemes to spend time with Rodney but when his father sidesteps him, suspicions are raised. Meanwhile, Donna’s stunned to hear that Debbie’s been arrested. Donna reveals she’s put in for a transfer to a station in Essex.

Chas is incredulous when Carl comes to chase the rent. Relations between the Kings and the Dingles are strained when Pollard agrees to grant Lisa flexible working hours. The Dingle’s rally round to keep Debbie’s businesses ticking over..can they make ends meet in Debbie’s time of need? Elsewhere, Ashley’s nerves are fraught when there’s still no news of Jasmine. Will Jasmine make contact with her family and friends? Elsewhere, Donna tries to get close to Marlon but he can’t face her… Lexi complains to Carl that the Dingles are taking them for a ride…

Also on Emmerdale this week:
Eli falters under questioning
Donna picks Ross up from prison
Ross says goodbye and leaves alone for a job in  Newcastle

Hollyoaks w/e January 30th

Hollywoodoaks’ newest babe Melissa Walton has admitted that filming her first episode was a "daunting" experience. The 18-year-old, who’ll turn up next month, admitted she was a bag of nerves when she shot her first scenes. She said: "It was a bit daunting because I was wearing very little in my first episode, but I tried to make myself as relaxed as possible." Melissa was given the role on a full-time basis after impressing on Hollyoaks Later, which aired last November. I fully expect her to make her mark on this show and look forward to seeing her performances. On with the show and Hannah’s thrilled when Matt turns up at The Dog. Zak and Michaela only have eyes for each other, but are still keeping their romance under wraps. Russ’ day doesn’t get off to a good start when he’s late for work and bumps straight into the head…oh dear. Justin’s annoyed when Ash winds him up about what happened in the SU. Anita’s anxious when Russ pairs her up with Gaz in class unaware that he’d mugged her the day before; Gaz acts the picture of innocence but quietly continues with his racist attacks towards Anita.

Elsewhere, Michaela’s on cloud nine after Zak told her he loves her. Leila wants Justin to get on with her brother and organises a lunch date for him to meet  Ash properly. Leila and Elliot volunteer to take over Kris’ radio broadcast. Russ arrives at school to find his classroom has been trashed and tries to get a confession out of Gaz. Elliot’s convinced he’s seriously ill when he starts seeing strange colours around people. Hayley refuses to be judged by her brother when he realises she’s spent the night with Archie…

Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Nancy and Hannah decide it’s time to find Sarah a man
Ash discovers Relish has been torched
Zak’s shocked when Hayley announces she plans to stick around
