EastEnders’ Max Gets A Massive Shock

Hello and Welcome To A Slice Of Soap. So what’s going on in soapland this week? Let’s find out.

EastEnders w/e Friday January 9

With all the recent emphasis on the now departed Sean ‘Shout!’ Slater, the EastEnders writers can now turn their full attention to the aftermath of ‘who-ran-Max-over?’. I’ve got to admit, this storyline doesn’t really grab me. It smacks of desperation, of writing something for the sake of ratings rather than taking the character in a believable direction. Because of course, it is totally realistic to have a young teenage girl get so mad at her dad that she gets into a car and attempts to run him over.

Now it’s not that part that didn’t really convince me – it’s the fact that she drove like Lewis Hamilton! No stalling the car for Lauren. When I was learning to drive, and even after I passed my test, I used to stall the car all the time! Not Lauren. Anyway, Max is stunned when he learns how much his daughter hated him – to the extent that she was prepared to murder him.

Whitney comes face-to-face with her biological mother Debra but the meeting doesn’t go as she’d hoped. Stacey tells Jean about Sean’s departure. Pat throws Janine out. Nick tries to reassure Pat, Peggy and Patrick that he’s changed, but he’s soon up to his old tricks. Tanya blames Max for ruining Lauren’s life. Jean’s devastated over Sean’s departure so Danielle offers to stay with her for a while. Janine goes shopping on Peggy’s credit card, but the credit card company ring the Vic to check her recent spending habits. Lauren’s faced with being taken into foster care. Ronnie agrees to give Danielle an interview for the barmaid job at R&R.

Also on EastEnders this week:
Jay makes a shocking discovery
Zainab organises a book club
A drunken Denise ends up in the gutter.

Emmerdale w/e Friday January 9

Coming up in the rural soap, Marlon Dingle is set to get his own back on wife Donna – by kissing his cousin. Verity Rushworth, who plays Donna, revealed that Marlon is caught red-handed on the sofa with Chas (Lucy Pargeter). This is after Marlon (Mark Charnock) threatens to divorce Donna after finding out about her affair with Ross (Samuel Anderson). The couple’s relationship will come under more strain as policewoman Donna is forced to arrest Marlon’s brother Eli (Joseph Gilgun) and cousin Debbie (Charley Webb). Will the couple sort out their differences? We’ll see. The Dingles rally round Marlon and ban Donna from the homestead.

Marlon and Ross get involved in a vicious brawl and are arrested. Ashley is curious as to why the Kings are proceeding with the funeral without Anna. Jasmine lies to the police about Ross and he is charged with murder. Matthew is laid to rest and Anna leaves the village to start a new life. Jimmy is accidentally shot. Jasmine tells Debbie that she wants to confess to the police. Debbie gives her some advice and they kiss passionately. Carl tells Chas that he loves her and that his relationship with Lexi is a sham. Aaron doesn’t want Carl to hurt his mother again and issues an ultimatum: either she chooses Carl or him. Paul is deeply upset when he receives a letter from Jonny wanting to tie up any loose ends in their marriage.

Also on Emmerdale this week:
Jimmy almost provokes a fight with Zak
Lily texts Jonny pretending to be Paul
Carl is furious with Debbie

Coronation Street w/e Friday January 9

I just about managed to hold on to my dinner at the sight of Lloyd and Liz playing tonsil tennis. Absolutely disgusting! I don’t know what the Corrie writers are thinking. Maybe Street Bike Liz has finally run out of men…Meanwhile, her son is desperately trying to get out of the trip to Ireland and Michelle is starting to wonder if he is trying to dump her. Steve tells Liz about Becky and his furious mum tells him to get it sorted. Amber and Dev are not seeing eye to eye.

Things are also strained between Leanne and Peter. Steve makes a shocking discovery and almost comes to blows with Lloyd. Becky confides in Hayley. Things are getting worse for Joe and when David asks him for his wages he tells him that he’d be better off going to the job centre.

A hungover Peter wakes late again to find Simon surrounded by milk and broken glass – the poor little lad had been trying to get ready for school without waking his dad. Molly and Amber are excited about their joint birthday and hen parties while Tyrone is driving Kevin mad with his constant talk about the wedding plans. It’s the night of Molly and Tyrone’s stag and hen dos. An excited Graeme is doing the catering but ends up getting dragged into a whole lot more. A devastated Becky watches Michelle and Steve head off for their night out before handing in her notice.

Also on Coronation Street this week:
Molly tells Tyrone that her dad will miss the wedding
Becky faces up to the truth
Molly confronts Jackie about her imaginary illness

Hollyoaks w/e Friday January 9

It’s time to get serious in Hollywoodoaks; Mercedes receives her HIV test results and is crushed by the results. Myra can’t help feeling angry for what Malachy’s put her daughter through and tells Mercedes to leave him. Kris overhears a very revealing conversation between Sarah and Zoe and can’t wait to share the gossip. Michaela and Zak try to deny their feelings for each other. Mike’s world has been blown apart following Kris’ bombshell about his girlfriend and his daughter. Josh finally plucks up the courage to propose and is thrilled when an overjoyed Amy says yes.  ichaela jumps to conclusions when she hears that Mike and Zoe have split up, and is convinced she’s the only one who can console Mike. Zoe turns to Zak for somewhere to stay and confides in him about her feelings for Mike.

Michaela’s convinced Zoe’s making a move on Zak when she bursts into halls and finds her half naked. Michaela launches herself at Zoe and a catfight ensues. Dominic returns home from Mexico and after seeing how untidy Ste and Justin have left the flat, decides it’s time to move out. Amy confronts Sarah and slaps her in the face. Nancy leaves the sisters to talk but Amy’s too wound up to listen and tells Sarah exactly what she thinks of her. Josh reminds her that they’re going to get married and all they need is each other.

Also on Hollyoaks this week:
Zoe buys Mike an old motorcycle
Amy’s moods are all over the place
Nancy and Ravi start flirting with Kris
