The Evil Tonys Of EastEnders And Corrie

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of a Slice Of Soap.

Hey guys, last night I settled down to watch EastEnders, curious to find out how events on Albert Square were unfolding with the padeophile storyline. I must say, Tony King has been brilliantly played by actor Chris Coghill. He’s managed to get across just how ‘ordinary’ child abusers are, just how insiduously they go about ruining the lives of everyone around them. In years to come, I’m convinced we’ll all remember Tony King. It’s been a hard storyline to watch but I think it has raised some important points.

Over on ITV, Coronation Street’s Gray O’Brien has insisted his character Tony Gordon is not the new Richard Hillman. Gail Platt’s psychotic husband Richard – played by Brian Capron – went on a mad killing spree in a bid to control The Street businesses and his family and even tried to murder the entire Platt family and himself by drowning them in the canal. But Gray said: "I don’t think he’s anything like Richard Hillman. Tony’s not out to destroy everyone, Tony’s out for himself and to look after his own interests, and they are being a successful businessman and marrying the woman he loves. That’s his agenda."

He continued: "He doesn’t like people saying no or getting in his way, so he moves them aside. His mission is to be hugely successful, retire at an early age with the woman of his dreams. It’s very simple for Tony. He won’t let people get in his way, and he always thinks everyone can be bought off or silenced." But the soap star also revealed Tony won’t let anyone stop him getting what he wants. Gray said: "He’s said so many times, he didn’t get where he is by being a nice guy. He didn’t have a silver spoon in his mouth, and he worked for everything he’s got. He’s not going to let a few people to blow that for him." Tony has just returned from honeymoon after arranging the murder of Liam Connor, and is now playing mind games with Liam’s widow Maria.
