Corrie’s Kym Marsh Pregnant

Hello and welcome to today’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. Just what are they putting in the water on Coronation Street? There’s been a spate of pregnancies and births of late and now Kym Marsh and Jamie Lomas have announced that they too are expecting a baby.

The Corrie actress and Hollyoaks hunk issued a joint statement saying they were "delighted" that Kym’s children David and Emily and Jamie’s son Billy will have a baby brother or sister. "We are delighted to be able to announce that we are having a baby. All our family and friends are very excited at the prospect of a new arrival next summer," the pair said.

Kym seems to have a thing for soap actors; she was previously married to ex-EastEnder Jack Ryder who played Jamie Mitchell in the popular BBC show. She’ll be on maternity leave in early summer so her character Michelle Connor will temporarily exit Corrie. Question is, how should she go? Well, as the writers have utilised Kym’s singing abilities, it’s pretty easy to just have Michelle go on tour again. But perhaps there’s a more imaginative storyline that could be employed? Maybe to do with Steve and Becky? If you’ve got a suggestion, list it by adding a comment below.

I bet the Corrie producers are thankful that men can’t get pregnant: in the last six months, babies have come to the likes of Julia Haworth (Clurrrrrrrrr Peacock), Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) and former Corrie actress Tina O’Brien (Sarah Grimshaw) and Andy Whyment (Kirk Sutherland).

In 2009, babies are coming to: Alison King (Carla Connor), Wanda Opalinska (Polish factory worker Wiki Dankowska), Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) and Jack Shepherd (‘Damian’ David Platt). At this rate, they might have to a crèche on’t cobbles….
