Stephanie Beacham Gets Corrie Role

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap!

Well guys, it’s official; Stephanie Beacham will play the role of Ken Barlow’s love interest in Coronation Street. The 61-year-old actress beat off competition from her former 70-year-old Dynasty co-star Kate O’Mara to bag the role.

Earlier on in the week, a Coronation Street source told the Daily Mirror: "We couldn’t believe it. The place was buzzing when Stephanie was here last week – so to get another actress from Dynasty a few days later was surreal. It’s bizarre for them to be battling to be the lover of Ken Barlow. It’s hardly Hollywood, is it?"

The Daily Mirror also reports that Corrie bosses thought Stephanie was more suited to the role of Martha – an eccentric theatre actress who will provide some excitement for lonely Ken, played by Bill Roache. Stephanie Beacham, famous for playing Sable Colby in the glossy US soap, will be appearing on the cobbles in the New Year.

Now, just in case you’re wondering how the pair will meet, inside sources have revealed that Ken and Martha will cross paths for the first time while he’s out walking by a canal. An inside source said: "Ken and Martha hit it off. They share a love of theatre and literature."

So, it’s congratulations to Stephanie Beacham and our deepest commiserations to Kate O’Mara…oh…and to Deidre too cos it looks like Ken and Martha are gonna be sharing a lot more than a love of theatre and literature on Corrie next year.
