Hello and Welcome To A Slice Of Soap. So what’s going on in soapland this week? Let’s find out.
EastEnders w/e Friday November 7
So what did you all think of the latest soap whodunnit? Are you desperate to know who ran Max Branning over It’s the question that’s gonna be on everyone’s lips for the next few episodes. How long can the writers string it out without people getting bored? Let’s not forget Emmerdale’s ‘who killed Tom King’ – that went on for months. In fact, if the Bradley/Stacey saga is anything to go by, we probably won’t get to find out who tried to kill Max until London’s 2012 Olympics.
I’m just joking. We’ll find out very soon. However, I can’t believe it was Jack – that’s just too obvious. Bradley? Well, as much as he hates his old man, he’s too much of a good guy to do anything like that….isn’t he? Hmmm. Don’t be too sure. There’s gonna be a twist somewhere and nice-guy Bradley would be the perfect shocker. And that’s why I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be him. Let’s see if I’m right…
To the rest of the week’s action…Tanya confesses that Jack was not with her the night of the accident. Stacey tells Callum she no longer wants to see him. ‘Squeal’ Beale has a change of heart about Jane’s comedy routine (oh puhleeeeeeeez!!!!!!!). The police want to talk to Abi about what she saw the night Max was run over. Bradley’s avoiding talking to the police. Tanya finds out where Jack really was the night Max was run over. Jane and Tamwar headline the stage at the Vic (oh puhleeeeeeeez!!!!!!!). Bradley tries to work out if there’s anything left for him in the Square. Stacey patches things up with Callum – but he’s hiding a secret. Archie gets under Sean’s skin because of his constant interfering. Stacey’s concerned about strange marks on Callum’s thighs. Lauren admits that she knows what happened to Max…

Hollyoaks w/e Friday November 7
If you thought you’d seen the last of Hollyoaks villain Niall Rafferty, think again. The psychotic hairdresser will be appearing in the late night version of the Channel 4 soap at the end of November. However actor Barry Sloane is keeping schtum. "I can’t say much about the plot," he said, "but I do come back for one final hurrah, as every villain does." It’s been a good year for the Liverpudlian; he picked up a nomination for Best Villain at this year’s British Soap Awards.
On with the week’s action and all I can say is…tissues at the ready as it’s a bit of a tearjerker this week. It’s the end of an era for Frankie and she’s on the verge of a breakdown as the pub goes up for auction. The entire McQueen clan struggles to cope with Tina’s death. Calvin takes Carmel out for a drink. The Ashworths open up The Dog. New student, Archie, arrives in halls and makes a strong first impression. Leila’s worried Archie’s going to blow her cover and tell her dad that she’s not studying Law. The Mcqueens say their final goodbyes to Tina. Dominic has an outburst in the church and the wake descends into chaos as the McQueens blame each other for what’s happened. Frankie and Newt move out of The Dog. Mandy and Warren can’t control their feelings for each other. Rhys, Hannah and Elliot head off to Liverpool to try and win tickets to the MTV awards (tres topical). Louise finds evidence of Warren’s affair. Leila’s horrified when her dad turns up at the college exhibition and she has to pass her work off as Justin’s.

Coronation Street w/e Friday November 7
A funeral, murder, kidnapping, blackmail – I had to look twice last week to make sure I was watching Coronation Street and not ‘Straight Outta Compton’…or something like that. The saving grace, as usual, was the moments of sarcastic comedy from the indomitable Blanche Hunt. She cracks me up! The rather silly Rosie Webster kidnapping saga will finally come to a head (thank goodness!). Weatherfield’s very own Brad Pitt (cos everyone seemed to fancy him) John Stapes and main squeeze Fiz return from holiday and she, being a dutiful girlfriend, decides to feed his gran’s ‘cat’. What will she find there? Poor Maria’s still tormented by the amount of calls to Carla on Liam’s phone. She tells Tom that she’s going to find out more about Carla’s involvement in Lad Rags. Norris’ obsession with entering competitions is driving Rita and Emily to distraction. Elsewhere, Peter offers to get some fireworks for Simon but he’s gone for ages and still hasn’t returned by nightfall.
I love Becky but I’m really not convinced by this DC Hooch storyline – it seems a bit too contrived. Yes we all know she’s got a criminal past and yes, there is such a thing as a bent copper – but I can’t help feeling that this story belongs in The Bill. I keep expecting DC Terry Perkins to crop up. Anyway Steve and Becky are alarmed to see DC Hooch in the Rovers. Rosie tells Sally about the video of Carla and Liam kissing. Things aren’t looking too good for Janice – she’s due in court for the lottery fraud. Auntie Pam (or really I should say, Auntie Scam) and Tyrone find themselves caught up in another of her schemes. Tony ‘JR’ Gordon’s business is in dire straits and he’s hugely in debt. He resorts to forging Carla’s signature so he can take money from the payroll to finance his property business. Is it all falling apart for the evil one? Yep. And it gets a lot worse come Christmas…Well that’s Brit-soaps for you. Christmas is always a miserable time so you won’t be surprised to learn that Tony ‘JR’ Gordon soon finds another victim in Jed Stone. It’s safe to say that he has definitely lost the plot.
Also on Coronation Street this week:
John lies unconscious after being hit by Rosie
Boring bookie Dan winds Steve up (hurry up and go Dan!!!)
Peter’s struggling with being a dad
Emmerdale w/e Friday November 7
If you’re wondering whether the writers of Coronation Street and Emmerdale are sharing more than the same channel, join the club. Perhaps it’s a bit of a coincidence that some of their storylines appear to be crossing over. They do say imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery. Y’see, Lily’s work mates find out all about her raffle ticket scam and over in Coronation Street, Janice Battersby’s work mates recently found out that she scammed them out of lottery money. Do I even need to say the words ‘baby swap’? I never want to see another baby swap storyline on a soap ever again. Also, don’t forget that there’s an hour-long episode of Emmerdale this Thursday…To the action and Edna forces Lily to confess her wrongs in front of her colleagues. Gennie begs Brenda to realise she’s misreading Bob’s friendliness. Jo frets when she receives a visit from Mick. Lily complains of a headache; is she hiding something more serious? Andy’s frustrated that Diane’s paying Mick to help at the farm. Is Jo already moving on from Andy?
Terry insists on helping Brenda at the village bonfire and she kisses him. Anna can’t hide her jealousy when Matthew flirts with a client. Donald can’t believe he’s been deceived by his own daughter. Lilly has a CT scan; will the result be even more worrying? Andy watches Jo and Lee bonding and struggles to contain his jealousy. Elsewhere, Debbie’s shocked to hear of Jasmine’s plans to do a story on the MacFarlanes. A vengeful Donald secretly keeps a copy of the Kings’ paperwork…Is he about to double cross Anna and the Kings?
Also on Emmerdale this week:
Bob tells Terry he has an admirer
Anna confesses she’s in love with Matthew
Shane joins Jasmine for a drink
