Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap.
Hey guys, I’m sure it hasn’t escaped your notice that half the cast of The Bill were once stars in EastEnders or Corrie or Emmerdale. The other half…well, it looks like they’ve all defected from ‘Hollywoodoaks’, the soap with all the beautiful people, as I like to call it. I thought it would be fun to take a look at those who’ve jumped ship and ended up in the retirement home for soap stars…Sun Hill Police Station.
:: Todd Carty: After leaving behind a lengthy stint as Mark Fowler in EastEnders, in which he became soap’s first main character to become HIV positive, he became bad copper PC Gabriel Kent. Subscribing to the Dirty Harry school of policing, Gabriel hired thugs to beat up local criminals and involved himself in a complex of web of deceit – claiming he was another officer’s long-lost son. He also allowed another colleague to burn to death, while trying to smother the real long-lost son to death.
:: Gillian Taylforth: Best known for playing Kathy in EastEnders, she first joined Gary Lucy on Footballers’ Wives before becoming Sergeant Nikki Wright. She officially resigned in June but will return to film one more episode before the character leaves officially in September.
:: Lucy Speed: She was famed for playing Natalie Evans in EastEnders during two spells – one from 1994 – 1995, and the other from 1999 – 2004. Leaving the show after her character pointed out Janine as Berry’s killer, she’s now a regular at Sun Hill tracking down the criminals as DC Stevie Moss.
:: Roberta Taylor: The former EastEnder, who played Irene Raymond, wife of Terry, gave up propping up the bar at the Queen Vic in Albert Square to take up the more honourable role of Inspector Gina Gold in the Bill, although her character is known as the station’s dragon and she was accused of bullying younger police officer PC Emma Keane.
:: Ali Bastian: After playing Becca Dean in Hollyoaks, she went from being stuck behind bars to putting people there – as she became the character PC Sally Armstrong.
:: Gary Lucy: Having won the Best Newcomer award at the 2000 British Soap Awards for his role of Luke Morgan in Hollyoaks, he then went on to play Kyle Pascoe in Footballers’ Wives and you can now find him as PC Will Fletcher. As a copper he is a trained pursuit driver but it is more his pursuit of fellow police officer Emma Keane which grabs storylines. Gary is due to be leaving the show this summer.
