Hello and welcome to Friday’s edition of A Slice Of Soap. What news today? Well it’s a bit of a spoiler so……you’ve been warned.
According to The Daily Star, it appears that Emmerdale’s Andy Sugden will apparently attempt suicide when battered wife Jo finally leaves him. The violent farmer (played by Kelvin Fletcher) swallows handfuls of pills when wife Jo (Roxanne Pallett) tells him she has had enough and prepares to make a break for freedom. Jo has been suffering the domestic abuse in silence for ages and her pride has stopped her seeking help. But in the next few weeks Sam Dingle (James Hooton) learns the truth about how she keeps getting ‘accidentally injured’ on Butlers Farm.
When he takes her to hospital for treatment he tells the doctor her injuries were not an accident. Sam’s interest gives Jo the confidence she needs to leave Andy, and that is when he makes his suicide bid. A show insider said: "It’s going to be a huge twist in their story and it will show fans exactly how messed up Andy really is. It’s gone far beyond him just trying to control Jo. he can’t look after himself any more and that feeling of not being in control pushes him over the edge, Naturally, Jo is shocked when she finds out and it has a huge impact on whether she makes a clean break from him or sticks around to see if this time he actually has changed."
If you were speculating about how Roxanne Pallett will exit the rural soap, now you know. I mentioned previously that it’s a shame so many soap plots get ‘leaked’ and/or released early these days. It’s great for bloggers and reporters on soap magazines, of course, as we don’t have to fight nearly as hard to find out details and bring them to you. However, part of me would still like the excitement of endless speculation right up to the night of transmission.
It was no secret that Vera was getting killed off of Coronation Street; it was no secret that Max would die tragically in Hollyoaks and it’s now no secret that Andy Sugden will attempt suicide in Emmerdale. Before you know it, the big Christmas storylines will be all over the shop too. I have to play the game, but part of me wishes I didn’t have to. Come on soap people, leave something huge to the imagination once in a while! What’s the betting that Michelle finds out about Steve and Becky’s one night stand this Christmas? I can’t think of a bigger storyline in the offing for Corrie at the moment….unless Rosie’s gonna get it on with Tony. Yuck.
That’s it for now. Join me on Monday for a full preview of all the action coming up in soap land. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me.
