Funniest Thing On Coronation Street!

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap. As far as I’m concerned, some soaps do some things better than others. EastEnders? No one can touch it for grit and violence. Hollywoodoaks? Easily the most glamorous soap. Emmerdale? When it comes to soap-dodgers (geddit?), this is the one – courtesy of the Dingles – that outdoes all the others. But wit? Humour has always been, and will always be, the domain of Coronation Street.

EastEnders struggles to do ‘funny’ – witness the latest attempt involving Keith’s lottery ticket. About as funny as a wet weekend in Wigan. On the other side, with a simple picture, Corrie has me rolling on the floor laughing. Vernon, long after you’re gone, I will always remember you fondly because of this…. Ladies and gents – I can’t do it justice so I shall say no more. This is, without a doubt, the funniest thing on Coronation Street….

The funniest thing for me ever on Corrie was when Emily, Norris, Rita and can\’t remember the other person

  2. Howard says:

So much comedy in corrie Reg and curly at bettabutys,The waterbed with Reg and Maureen ,The Ogdens,Duckworth\’s,The jaccuzi with les and cilla and on it goes a lot of sitcom\’s could learn from corrie!!

  3. Lucy- Jane says:

haha i mema when sally said to rosie or sophie.. dont be a slapper before your age hahahaha

  4. Michael says:

You couldn\’t beat Stan and Hilda for the funny bits. Corrie has gone downhill over the years due, no doubt, to the ridiculous amount of episodes (weekly to twice-weekly and now it\’s never off) and the corresponding drop in quality. Too much of a good thing and all that. Remember when Eddie Yeats was Stan & Hilda\’s lodger? And her \’Muriel\’ on the wall, complete with ducks? Oh, and she provided the saddest scene of all – when Stan\’s glasses came back from the hossie. They were true tragi-comic days. Sorry, but they\’re struggling now. But at least it\’s not those totally humourless cockneys in the \’other one\’. Can\’t bring myself to even LOOK at THAT! Now, humour in Corrie is watered down… everything in Corrie is watered down due to there being just too much of it all. People CAN wait a few days for a TV programme you know. And why on earth do tabloids and TV magazines have to spoil storylines by publishing the events before they occur? Doesn\’t that defeat the purpose of watching the thing?
I\’m certain that many, many folks will agree with me on all of that.

Oh, and Patricia, don\’t leave us hanging on your next word, please…
    When they WHAT?

  6. april says:

Sorry gaucho, ( pressed add by mistake, its not easy multi tasking) was going to say, when Emily, Norris, Rita and I think it might have been Roy or perhaps Blance were in the cafe at a book club meeting with the vicar and they\’d had some hash cake (not that I advocate drugs especially to OAPs) had to be one of the funniest things on telly.  Blance and Norris have some wicked one-liners but just recently the story lines have been very grisly, babies swapped at birth, Liam & Maria\’s still born baby etc. I agree with you gaucho lets get some humour back. I think the programme makers are so eager to out-do each other and win awards that they lose sight of  why we, the viewers watch.

  8. bill says:

corrie beats all the soaps for humour with emmerdale a close second.some storylines do drag on a bit though.

  9. kate says:

corrie is my favourite soap, i dont bother to watch the others as they just dont match the standard of really winds me up when its canclled for FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!

  10. Carole says:

I\’m so glad the footie is on – you can watch Corrie all year – Euro cup is fabulous and I am glued to the box!!

  11. Carole says:

By the way what have they done to Steve – he is weird now – nothing like he used to be – he is a sly nasty bit of work and he used to be a real jack the lad – he is always chewing gum and trying to talk at the same time – awful!!

  12. Unknown says:

the funniest and the best characters were tracy and karen. programme not the same without them. i can\’t stand the morticia adams family lookalike carla. and whats with jet black hair dye and the connors. do they get discount on the stuff or is it supposed to look natural? is carla the one who used to be in those tacky DAZ washing machine soap powder adverts. she looks like a horse chewing a wasp.

  13. Becky 2K7 says:

i agree with gaucho and particia when i say that they need to cut down the amount of episodes a week because the stories are so streched out, they are basically saying the same thing in every episode in one week. The best character in Coronation Street will always be Richard Hilman, but they\’ll never produce anything like that ever again.
