Gus & Slater Leaving EastEnders

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap.

I’m sure by now you’ve all heard the news of the departure of Mohammed George and Rob Kazinsky from EastEnders. Here’s the story:

‘EastEnders’ stars Rob Kazinsky and Mohammed George are to leave the soap. According to The Sun, a BBC spokesperson confirmed that both actors would be leaving their roles. Kazinsky, who plays Sean Slater in the show, reportedly wants to move to Hollywood to further his acting career there. Mohammed George, who plays Gus Smith in the show, is also moving on from Albert Square. A BBC spokesperson said: "As the character did not have any big plots coming up it was agreed Mohammed would leave. He is in talks with the BBC about other projects."

It’s the departure of Sean ‘Shout’ Slater that will come as the greater surprise. Rob Kazinsky’s obviously got his sights set on becoming a Hollywood movie star and it seems as though he’s well on the way; apparently he’s  already signed up with Brad Pitt’s agent.  As the saying goes, if you shoot for the stars you won’t end up with a handful of mud. I think I heard Chico off The X Factor say that once…Anyway, if Vinnie Jones can go from playing football for Wimbledon FC (if you want to call what they did football) all the way to Hollywood superstardom, Kazinsky’s got a chance. Let’s not forget that Michelle Ryan, formerly Zoe Slater, stars in The Bionic Woman – stranger things have happened. We wish him all the best. Oh, and one good thing about Kazinsky leaving EastEnders: at least I’ll be able to watch the show without  worrying about my poor old ear drums.

And so to our hero Gus. I started ‘Gus Watch’ because I couldn’t help noticing how few storylines the character was being given. And even when he got a storyline, it was usually rubbish anyway. Can you imagine the amount of pages actor Mohammed George would’ve had to flick through each week before he found something his character was actually doing? But still, I’ll miss him. What are we going to do now? Who’s gonna keep us amused on a Friday afternoon now that our hero has been handed his P45? In a sad way Albert Square won’t be the same without him. The BBC might actually have to hire extras now that they can’t depend on Gus to fill up the numbers.

Question is, how will Gus go? What’s the best way to write him out? Will they even bother? As for Mohammed George, I bet we’ll see him on soap retirement home The Bill soon…

  2. - says:

I just use Sky Plus and skip scenes.  I can do a whole episode in about 10 mins 🙂

  3. jennifer says:

I\’ll be glad when the BBC finally drop the axe on EastEnders completely, it past its best years ago.

  4. peter says:

They should take a look at the street they have got the mix write Deadenders could do with a bit of humor in it\’s far to depresing.

  5. Unknown says:

I love eastenders it\’s alot like real life but please stop writing out all the fast cast.

  6. dennis says:

There are far to many good characters leaving Eastenders Gus has not had his character widened enough and this is down to the scriptwriters where as Shaun has developed and brought a bit of excitement into the square but as you say keep tuned to the Bill we may see either or both popping up

  7. Robert says:

    who\’s gus ?

  8. Unknown says:

why oh why don\’t the writers give \’Gus\’ more lines and maybe he would stay!

  9. Lucy says:

I think eastenders  needs a bit of cheering up , it cant be doom and gloom all the time but i still love to watch them all .

  10. Dilys says:

I really do think they should find another programme to fill this slot, what with Dawn and her perpetual hunt for a mate – poor baby left with anione who will have it – the sisters screaming at each other  etc and to top it all the PREGNACY – or is it – could be the menopause, please put us out of our misery and give us some new  programmes altogether.

  11. tracie says:

I think eastenders has got very boring. we need some bad boys in it like the mitchell bruvs, steve owen and andy to liven it up a bit instead of these brainless , blond bimbos that cant act to save their lives. We need the traditional eastender villian. so come on .. bring em\’ on!. It\’s also a shame they got rid of danny and jake they were such a joy to watch as well as alfie. We need more talent like them, otherwise BORING!.

  12. emma says:

i think thats bad sean is good lol

  13. ann says:

I am fed up of the miserable/ignorant characters playing in eastenders, I would consider watching the program again only if the writers put in someone with old fashioned manners and humour. If I had people who mimic the characters, living next to me I would nt speak to them and ignore them, as they are all a pain in the bum which in todays climate can well do without!!!!!!!!!!!!!

watched eastenders since the beginning but think it has become quite boring..get rid of roxy and ronnie cant act t save their lives..sean added a bit of excitement

  16. karen says:

since roxy and ronnie joined it is really boring use t love it but think it is past its sell by date now add a fe w more exciting characters

  17. Michaela says:

yawn, yawn, dawn. cindy and barbie truly useless.  I don\’t know why I watch it

  18. Lauren says:

The writers of Eastenders need to be doing more with Mohammed/Gus and explore his character, he\’s a talented actor and could bring something new to the show. Give him a chance BBC, it could boost your ratings. Roxy and Ronnie, what a pair of miserable blighters, axe them now. Bring back Ross Kemp/Grant Mitchell, I love that man. And Sean/Rob, once again, my eyes are going to be deprived of some seriously hot stuff should he leave.

  19. cameron says:

    Sean Slater is bad Boy

  20. matthew says:

Has anyone got any textual analysis on when Sean bullied Gus and how it could be seen as racism??kroma_one@hotmail.co.uk
