Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap.
I’m sure by now you’ve all heard the news of the departure of Mohammed George and Rob Kazinsky from EastEnders. Here’s the story:
‘EastEnders’ stars Rob Kazinsky and Mohammed George are to leave the soap. According to The Sun, a BBC spokesperson confirmed that both actors would be leaving their roles. Kazinsky, who plays Sean Slater in the show, reportedly wants to move to Hollywood to further his acting career there. Mohammed George, who plays Gus Smith in the show, is also moving on from Albert Square. A BBC spokesperson said: "As the character did not have any big plots coming up it was agreed Mohammed would leave. He is in talks with the BBC about other projects."
It’s the departure of Sean ‘Shout’ Slater that will come as the greater surprise. Rob Kazinsky’s obviously got his sights set on becoming a Hollywood movie star and it seems as though he’s well on the way; apparently he’s already signed up with Brad Pitt’s agent. As the saying goes, if you shoot for the stars you won’t end up with a handful of mud. I think I heard Chico off The X Factor say that once…Anyway, if Vinnie Jones can go from playing football for Wimbledon FC (if you want to call what they did football) all the way to Hollywood superstardom, Kazinsky’s got a chance. Let’s not forget that Michelle Ryan, formerly Zoe Slater, stars in The Bionic Woman – stranger things have happened. We wish him all the best. Oh, and one good thing about Kazinsky leaving EastEnders: at least I’ll be able to watch the show without worrying about my poor old ear drums.
And so to our hero Gus. I started ‘Gus Watch’ because I couldn’t help noticing how few storylines the character was being given. And even when he got a storyline, it was usually rubbish anyway. Can you imagine the amount of pages actor Mohammed George would’ve had to flick through each week before he found something his character was actually doing? But still, I’ll miss him. What are we going to do now? Who’s gonna keep us amused on a Friday afternoon now that our hero has been handed his P45? In a sad way Albert Square won’t be the same without him. The BBC might actually have to hire extras now that they can’t depend on Gus to fill up the numbers.
Question is, how will Gus go? What’s the best way to write him out? Will they even bother? As for Mohammed George, I bet we’ll see him on soap retirement home The Bill soon…
