Brits Want The Angie ‘n’ Den Lifestyle

Hello and welcome to A Slice Of Soap.

There’s a new survey out, compiled on behalf of Somerfield, that reckons we all want to live in Albert Square. Sounds a bit crazy doesn’t it? Read the following:

Forget Posh ‘n’ Becks, Brits want the Angie ‘n’ Den lifestyle. DESPITE the murders, house fires and high percentage of extra-marital affairs, EastEnders’ Albert Square is a dream neighbourhood for millions of Brits.  It may be losing the ratings war, but Albert Square embodies the most desirable type of community for 41 per cent of Brits, according to Somerfield’s ongoing Local Life report which quizzed 2,035 UK adults.

Complete with much-loved features such as an allotment (desired by 46 per cent), community centre (60 per cent) and street market (59 per cent), Walford’s signature Square (64 per cent) and tube station (78 per cent) leave it streets ahead of Corrie’s Weatherfield, Emmerdale’s Farm and Hollyoaks’ Village.
One amenity on Albert Square that needs improving, however, is its infamous public house – modern Britons would much prefer a pint in the Woolpack (19 per cent) or the Rovers’ Return (13 per cent) than the tumultuous Queen Vic (10 per cent).

I don’t know about you, but I certainly wouldn’t want the likes of nosy Dot Cotton and rowdy Sean ‘Shout’ Slater as my neighbours. Give me the Posh and Becks lifestyle any day.

But hey, there is somebody who definitely wants to live in Albert Square again and that’s Patsy Palmer. Full story here.  It looks like she’s set to make a return to EastEnders as Biancaaaaarrgh.  Well, she’s certainly eaten her words hasn’t she? Patsy Palmer’s gone from vowing never to return to Albert Square to being ”really excited about rejoining the cast and working with old friends again.”  Hah! Who does she think she’s kidding? Have EastEnders storylines become soooo believable all of a sudden? No, of course not. The only reason anyone returns to a job they don’t like is because of money. Or rather a lack of it. I don’t know why these actors don’t just come clean and admit it.

It’s a bit like Emmerdale’s Nicola Wheeler who plays Nicola Blackstock. A few months ago she was being interviewed on Phil & Fern’s This Morning show and you could tell she wanted to kick Fern for asking her why she’d decided to go back to Emmerdale. It was quite funny listening to her trying to explain why she was now leaving the theatre – which was probably the very reason why she left Emmerdale – to return to a dull soap role.  Her face just said it all…MONEY…MONEY…MONEY!

Anyway lets hope that the return of Patsy Palmer as Biancaaaaaaaarrgh brings some much-needed life back to EastEnders.
