Bobby Davro has recently made his first appearance on EastEnders. He’s playing newcomer Vince Monks. Now, there may be some of you out there who have no idea who Bobby Davro is. Allow me to fill you in, he’s an impressionist and comedian (although I’ve never found him funny). A regular face on TV back in the 1980s, starring in entertainment shows such as Bobby Davro On The Box and Copy Cats, he’s had a bit of a TV drought recently. Until EastEnders that is…
Good old Davro made a dramatic Albert Square entrance by accidentally running over bad-girl Shirley. She was trying to make it to court in time for Deano and Chelsea’s trial.
Poor Vince Monks spent most of his first episode apologising – I suppose that’s to be expected after having just run someone over. He seems quite likeable. He’s obviously got a few bob in his pocket, judging by his flash motor. But it’s still very early days and we don’t know very much about him. One thing’s for sure, he’s probably got a few skeletons in the closet. Have a bet on what you think they are; knowing EastEnders, he’s probably ‘connected’ in some way. A Walford Tony Soprano – that’s my guess. What’s yours?
Personally, I’m not too sure about Vince and Shirley as an item. To me they just don’t look like a couple; Shirley looks like the kind of woman that would eat somebody like Vince for breakfast. She’s already got dollar signs in her eyes and is planning to cash in on the accident. I reckon someone like Dawn would more be his cup of tea. Bobby Davro didn’t do too badly, but will he replace Shane Richie as Alfie Moon? That’s what the people behind EastEnders are hoping for. Let’s see the directions the scriptwriters take his character. Can’t be any worse than what they’ve done with poor Parklife! Phil Daniels.
Soap News: It appears that someone high up the EastEnders chain has finally voiced what we’ve all known for ages – bringing Dirty Den back to EastEnders was a mistake that dented the old soap’s credibility. Back in the 1980s, he was one of the best characters on TV and Leslie Grantham’s double act with Anita Dobson as Den’s wife Angie was the stuff of TV legend. I really miss them and I personally wasn’t keen on his Lazurus-like resurrection. Read more about this story here.
