Inside Soap Award Winners – Who Voted?

Hello Soapsters! Welcome to A Slice Of Soap. The Inside Soap Awards saw Coronation Street finally beat EastEnders to the Best Soap award. It won the battle of the soaps in five categories. Here’s the full list of winners:

Best Actor: Antony Cotton (Sean Tully, Coronation Street)
Best Actress: Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater, EastEnders)
Sexiest Male: Rob James-Collier (Liam Connor, Coronation Street)
Sexiest Female: Roxanne McKee (Louise Summers, Hollyoaks)
Best Young Actor: Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle Dingle, Emmerdale)
Best Newcomer: Rob James-Collier (Liam Connor, Coronation Street)
Best Bad Boy: Jack P Shepherd (David Platt, Coronation Street)
Best Bitch: Sophie Thompson (Stella Crawford, EastEnders)
Best Couple: Lacey Turner and Charlie Clements (Stacey and Bradley, EastEnders)
Funniest Character: Charlie Hardwick (Val Lambert, Emmerdale)
Best-Dressed: Kara Tointon (Dawn Swann, EastEnders)
Best Drama: The Bill
Best Storyline: Stella’s torment of Ben (EastEnders)
Best Soap: Coronation Street

There were one or two surprises but on the whole it was all fairly predictable. Coronation Street took Best Soap…you mean, they actually beat Emmerdale this year? I can’t believe it! That’s a joke.  Coronation Street has had some great storylines this year and deserved to take the main prize over EastEnders which has been mediocre apart from the Stella/Ben abuse storyline. In addition, nobody does comedy better than Corrie. So for making us laugh (Cilla and Blanche), shocked (‘Damian’ David’s antics) and sad (Deirdre’s anguish over her rotten daughter), Corrie deserved it.

Shock as Jack P Shephard won Best Bad Boy…not. We all knew that was going to happen. I mean, who can touch ‘Damian’ David Platt when it comes to being bad? He makes Sean ‘Shout’ Slater and Charlie Stubbs look like a couple of pantomime villans…He’s in a class of his own right now.

Antony Cotton picked up the Best Actor award. How he’s managed to do that is beyond me. He’s hardly had any major decent storylines, which is why he’s been able to find the time to host his own chat show. Has anyone seen it? Lets just say that he won’t be winning any prizes for that. Give me Paul O’ Grady any day. Lacey Turner who plays Stacey Slater on EastEnders took the Best Actress Award and Best Couple alongside Charlie Clements. Again – no surprise. She’s had some pretty good storylines and with the Stacey/Bradley wedding fast approaching, we’ll all be glued to the box because no soap wedding ever goes smoothly. However, that’s what EastEnders needs – more gripping storylines. Admittedly, they got the Stella tormenting Ben storyline right – that was disturbing and a must-see…let’s just hope they keep moving in the same direction.

The only other major acting gong was won by Emmerdale. Washing the dishes might be more fun than Emmerdale is at the moment, but I’m pleased little Eden Taylor-Draper (who plays Belle Dingle) took an award home. She’s one of the better child actors around in a soap. Hollyoaks’ Roxanne McKee (who plays Louise Summers) won their only award; Sexiest Female. Hollyoaks winning an award based on the looks of their cast? Big surprise…not. One other thing is that the great Maggie Jones who plays Deirdre’s trying mum Blanche was robbed. She should’ve won Funniest Character instead of Charlie Hardwick who plays Val Lambert on Emmerdale. Blanche could read the phone book and make me laugh.

That’s it for now. Join me on Friday for more news and gossip from the world of soaps. Got a comment about your favourite soap, this blog or anything else? Share it with me.

how on earth has corrie won best british soap? the storylines have been laughable they were that bad, the whole tracy storyline was so unbelieveably rubbish.  alot of so called critics have slated eastenders recently but nothing was said about corrie. even the god aweful \’richard Hillman storyline was diabolical, what type of message does corrie give out?  know i\’m in debt i will murder my brother in law (who isnt short of a bob or 2) & i\’ve just come out of a relationship that was worse than tracy\’s so i think i will murder him.        i dont like the bloke but i wouldnt got to those lengths.
Blanche hunt was robbed her and her witty oneliners have me in stitches she should have won funniest character

Corrie won because it is the best soap. EastEnders has been rubbish this year. The only memorable storyline was about a nutjob abusing a little boy. Corrie has better characters, better storylines and better humour.

Corrie thoroughly deserved their Best Soap award, but I think Kym Ryder should have won the Best Actress award as she is much better than Lacey Turner, more natural, in actual fact I don\’t know why she wasn\’t nominated for the Best Newcomer award as she has been in all the other award ceremonies.  Not sure that I agree with Anthony Cotton as Best Actor, it seems to me that he just plays himself.  Eden Taylor-Draper, so glad she won the Best Young Actor and the same goes for Charlie Hardwick with the Funniest Performance award.
